becauses, it would appear I am.

argh! I can't afford to pay £22 for school trousers
but I wouldn't wear polyester/viscose trousers all day and I don't think ds should either.
and as for all this teflon/stormwear/staindefence crap... what is with that??? just wash them fgs!

at MD. I hate that when it happens too.

I tried JL last summer and they didn't have them, which one did you go to? I tried online and phoned Oxford Street.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we move this summer and I won't have to go through the whole jumper/trouser rigmarole again.

madame, no, i saw it. i have checked john lewis... nothing!
i also checked back in august when we were initially buying uniform and they didn't have any then either

so before you accuse people of not reading things, why not check you're actually giving out the correct information

Sorry, hadn't realised your DS was so small. When dd was tiny, she wore cotton chino type trousers - do they definitely have to be 'school trousers'? (Mind you, I inherited 3 pairs of black cotton chinos from a friend, don't know if you can still buy them.)

I've never understood this obsession with nylon/polyester trousers, dd can trash them far quicker than cotton ones.

One other thought, at the moment dd is mostly wearing M&S plain black cotton joggers, I bought them for her to wear for PE, but she's been wearing them as school trousers as they're warmer & more comfortable. There are boys ones here if you need grey trousers. They are a trouser type style, IYKWIM. (The boys in the picture appear to be square, but dd is quite skinny and the girls ones do come up ok on her, and they appear to be exactly the same style.)

What about cord trousers? Have a couple of pairs for my DS as he gets 'itchy' with the nylon/poly mix ones. Cosy and hardwearing.

john lewis are changing supplier of uniform and so have run their stock down to nothing which is hellishly irritating.

"some time soon" they will have new stock of all.

OtterInaSkoda · 20/01/2010 10:42

I second Gap Kids. not much (often not at all) dearer than M&S.

Having said that, these days I've come to realise that nylon/Teflon isn't the devil's work (ds doesn't have skin problems though) so if I can find cheaper, non-cotton ones in the right colour I get those too.

fortunately our uniform can be generic 'dark trousers'. I get any dark blue trousers that are cotton from John Lewis/M and S.

thisisyesterday · 20/01/2010 15:45

thanks all. they're relatively strict with uniform, but i think chinos may be ok, pretty sure we wouldn't get away with tracksuit trousers

maybe i need to search ebay for just grey trousers rather than school trousers... hmm

so it turns out M&S sell grey cotton chinos!!
hurrah.
bad news is they're out of stock online, but will endeavour to find some in store.

Bump.

Any luck thisisyesterday? Am having the exact same problem. Spent a ridiculous amount of time trawling the internet without success over the weekend. M&S can't even supply grey school socks in DS's size. When does 'Back to school' start? After Easter? What on earth am I supposed to dress him in until then? Grrrr.... I really, really need some grey chinos/smartish grey jeans or similar. (And it is such an incredibly boring thing to have to spend so much time and engergy on!).
