To not be bothered by body hair?

The thread about slatternly personal habits made me realise... I don't mind body hair. I mean, fur spreading out of the nostrils or beards with food bits in them is a bit much. but otherwise: hairy legs, hairy armpits (as long as they don't smell), women with mustaches or fuzzy tummies -- I don't see the problem.

I mean, hair in odd places (on men or women) isn't the prettiest, but I wouldn't class it as unhygienic. I'm surprised at how many people do view something like hairy legs on a woman as inherently 'disgusting'.

Do you all think I'm mad or does anyone else think it's a bit of madness to get so bothered about (normal) body hair?

Can´t say it really bothers me either tbh.

As long as people wash & don´t have BO!

link to other thread please.

I 'veeted' my legs and other bit and bobs on thursday because I had a wedding to go to on Saturday.

2 handFULs of hair out of the plug....my excuse is PCOS and I find it very hard to maintain without hours spent defuzzing. I only defuzz my face daily because I would be very embarrassed to be seen sporting a full beard.

lljkk · 17/01/2010 11:58

Well okay fair enough if you don't like a beard on yourself or hair wherever on yourself. But why find it bothersome on other people? Why should they be embarrassed?
Maybe just myvho.

lljkk, no it's not just you, I totally agree. Somewhere along the way women have roped themselves into having to be hairless, made up creatures who can't just be themselves as men can. If you live as men do (just washing, dressing plainly without cleavage and fancy shoes) it's said that you've let yourself go.

There's nothing wrong with body hair on men or women, and it's utterly daft the lengths and expense some people go to to rid themselves of it. It's there for a reason, that's why it grows back.

I often wonder if this phase of history will be seen the same as women wearing corsets or shaving their hairlines and painting white lead on their faces a few hundred years ago.

i know what you mean about the creeping pressure to be hairless.
In my youth I let my bikini area run free - apart from when I was going swimming, now I feel I should be maintaining it regular like.
I was also pondering if i should do somethn with my forearms the other day.
They are hairy, fine hair but dark - goes light in the sun. Never bothered me before but now am thinking should I et rid?
I also have a fair bit of fuzz on my face.
I dont have PCOS, am just hairy.

JoeyBettany · 17/01/2010 16:20

I've got a rather hairy lower back. All my partners have commented on it, apart from current DH, who says he likes it!

but how the hell would I be supposed to get rid of it?
life's far too shot IMO, and I also never shave anything in the winter months

diddl · 17/01/2010 16:37

I´ve also currently got my "Winter coat"

Anifrangapani · 17/01/2010 16:42

I have my fur coat on as well

I'm not particulary bothered either, although like Riven, I will conform to social pressure and do my legs occasionally in the summer.

I rarely deal with down below especially as i'm single, but am overdue for a smear and now am panicking at the thought of anyone seeing the forest that has sprouted, grown and received national heritage status and now I feel the pressure to do something about it and wonder what it says about me if I do?

If i do it I will feel like I'm betraying myself.

I keep putting off this stupid smear because of it.

Chandon · 17/01/2010 17:14

I started shaving the whoe shebang off when I lived in a hot tropical climate for 6 years, and it made me more sweaty (also I used to wear vest tops most days).

Now I am back in the UK, but is just no going back, I now find bushes of hair disgusting, and cannot seem to get rid of that idea.

In my twenties I once had a BF who laughed at my Black forest, and I laughed right back at him.

Now I feel embarassed with hindsight.

Isn´t it odd? I just cannot change it.

(sits here in woolly jumper, jeans and boots , with neat bikini line and shaved pits and waxed legs that noone will see!)

Caoimhe · 17/01/2010 17:14

2kidzandi - do NOT put off your smear. Good lord, the nurse will have seen it all before and won't give a stuff.

Anyway why should you care what a random stranger (the nurse) thinks about you - if she even thinks about you at all!

I find lady bits that look like a little girl's much more disturbing. Yes, I shave legs and armpits and trim 'down there', but the completely hairless look makes me a bit .
