Last night a friend of mine received a text message which said "Can we make jokes about Haiti yet or shall we wait for the dust to settle?" My friend didn't find it funny but I was amazed and disgusted that it would occur to people to send a message like that, aibu?

I think the fact is there are just stupid, ignorant people out there.

I was forwarded a picture this week of a bus having gone through a shop window after the driver had had a heart attack. I challenged the sender as I was disgusted and they genuinely thought it was funny. The mind boggles.

Think is horrid personally.

I know I have a blacker sense of humour than many and I have to be careful who I share it with (have come a cropper on here before)
Mine is a coping mechanism as I have a tendancy to over empathise and am horriubly over sensitive. Gallows humour balances me out a bit.
I used to work in newspapers and the humour was totally warped and often sick, but it helped people cope with a bombardment of bad news.
aT the same time as making jokes, many people are donating money and crying later.
By all means tell people you don't appreciate that kind of humour, but don't judge people for having that kind of sense of humour.
Having said that, I'd never forward anything by text/email unless i knew damn sure the recipient had similar tolerance levels, IYSWIM.
