I admired dd's friend's coat. Her mother duly informed me it was a Boden coat which her mother had got from the charity shop in which she volunteers. "I gave mum a list of the brands to look out for - so she can pick them out when stuff comes in. I've got loads of good things."

I know this goes on, but I really don't think it's on. Even if the volunteer pays a nominal price, it means the shop is deprived of stock, and if the shop only stocks horrible old tat then people won't bother to go in. You can't imagine a boutique, say, allowing its staff to buy all the prime stuff first so there's nothing left to attract customers.

I know someone who makes a living doing this. She doesn’t work in a charity shop but chats up the people who do so they’ll put the good stuff to one side for her. They then pocket the cash she gives them for the stuff. She sells it online and at boot sales. Is quite brazen about it but I think it is defrauding the charity Sad

It's not just the nice stuff going out the" back door" but the staff can be Clicky I noticed if I wanted something they would say no got to go on shop floor!..but if they wanted it was a different matter.not saying I didn't have anything because I did..when ever anyithing was b!ought it was rexcorded in ,a book anyway..but I was given the boot because I put an item on eBay without there knowledge
..I think the boss checked eBay accounts or was told by one of the staff to look..we got on really well up untill then ..or I thought we were...
