to think I shouldn't be this tired?

I go to bed at 10 (with the baby). I get decent nights' sleep: 4mo baby wakes up at 3, has v quick feed in bed with us (I often go back to sleep while she's feeding) and goes back to sleep, wakes at 6am for a feed and goes back to sleep until somewhere between 8 and 9. I have my au pair to help with her in the daytime, especially while I'm working. I eat well, I usually get a fair amount of exercise (generally at least a 2.5 mile fast walk every day with the dog, although has been less recently in this cold). I had a cold but I'm over it, my thyroid levels are supposed to be normal.

So why do I feel so tired? My hair is all falling out in that glorious post partum way- could it be the shift in hormones making me feel blergh, or should I go back the quack to see about tweaking the thyroid meds? I certainly didn't feel this tired until the baby was about 3 months old (it's been since December, this).

I'd think about going back to your GP and having full tft blood tests - tsh, free and combined f3 and t4 just to rule out any probable problems.

On the other hand you could always try upping the dose a little to see if this makes any difference. The recommended dose according to US research is 1 microgram of thyroxin for every pound of body weight, with 100 microgram of thyroxin being equivalent to 10 microgram of L-iodothyronine or T3.

Hope that helps

I recently found out that I was anaemic (sp?) when DS was about 20 months! The doctor said it was probably from when I was pregnant so yes go back and speak to your doctor as it could be something like that.

do check with docs but dont disregard the broken sleep and general SAD/Jan issue.I feel the same, all I do is work, play with toddler, dinner, sleep. repeat!

i have underactive thyroid but it went into overdrive after ds was born.

sounds like yours may have gon the other way?

go and get a full blood test NOW - don't try self medicating IMO - if there is an issue your prescription needs chaning and if there isn't then thyroxine is not something to mess around with.

I just had a routine thyroid assay yesterday. The results aren't back yet, but my last test in October showed levels of TSH: 2.01 and T4 16.6 and I was feeling very well overall. Now, less so. I must say it is reminiscent of being anaemic but I'm taking a multivitamin and the occasional sachet of Spatone as well it shouldn't be that.

My friend felt like this from last October onwards, she has an 18 month old and runs her own business. She kept blaming herself for not coping, finally went to the doctors, and after blood tests they told her she had had glandular fever and was now probably suffering from post viral fatigue. She was thrilled! So do go and get checked out.
