I'm 26weeks gone with my first baby, last week I had some unexplained pains/cramps and spent the night in hosp, i was allowed ro discharge myself with strict instructions to take it easy but am now under consultant care..

anyhow, been back to work this week, don't drive and use public transport. Got up today to a barrage (right word?) of txts & msgs etc to 'not leave the house' 'stay home' and 'be safe' cos of the ice no buses etc are coming to my village, which means a 2mile treck (over said ice!) to train station so i called in work and arranged an annual leave day... now i feel really guilty... boo and i'ts ruining my day off! boo....

Have your annual leave and enjoy it! It's not like you are skivving off sick like you could have done.

YANBU and stop feeling guilty, you have good reason to take a holiday, have a duvet day and stay in the warm where it is safe

Good grief don't go feeling guilty. Where I am in Derbyshire it is much more treacherous today than it has been for the last few weeks because the thaw has made everything slippery. I left the house, skidded several feet into a parked car on the other side of the road and decided today was a day for working from home! I use public transport too, but even if I did drive I wouldn't be driving down our road today.

Taking annual leave and staying home is the most responsible thing you could have done. You are not letting anyone down, you are looking after yourself and your baby. Fingers crossed we'll have a proper thaw soon and will be able to get out and about with confidence.

yanbu, stay in a MN and flick through mothercare catalogues or something

Not unreasonable at all. In fact (and I suspect your employer will agree with me if you ask them) I'd prefer it if the staff at my company could all be trusted to conduct themselves in like fashion.

There's absolutely nothing wrong in what you've done - you're hurting no one and you're minimising the considerable risk to yourself and your child.

I'd be crosser as an employer if you'd struggled to get in, putting yourself and the baby in danger and forcing me to take responsibility for both that and getting you home safely. As it is, you get a day off, I lose nothing and we're both much less stressed.

Carry on and enjoy!
