to think that "Baby on Board" signs in cars are ridiculous?

Why have a Baby on Board sign in your car?

Do people think it creates a protective force field around their cars?

Will other drivers really think "well I was going to crash into you but now I can see you have children, I won't"?

I have heard the argument that they are there in the event of a crash to warn emergency services to look for a child but people don't take the stickers out of their cars when the kids aren't in it, do they?

Isn't the child car seat larger and more conspicuous any way?

Really don't see the point.

People who have kids for show should not have them.

Why are you resurrecting a 15 year old thread?

We've bought one for our soon-to-be-born child to alert emergency services in case of an accident, and for no other reason.

The response from the poster who is a member of the emergency services has made me question this slightly now... But then again that's only one person. Any other emergeny services workers out there have an opinion? (That's a genuine question, not a dig).

In any case I'll still put the sign up. To my mind, if there's any chance it could help rescue workers realise there is a child on board, that's a good thing. And if not, surely it does no harm?

Perhaps those who find it so irritating should cut (over?) anxious first time parents a little slack. Aren't most parents a little ott the first time round?

And will you take it down when your child is not in the car so they don't waste time?

They’re a fantastic way of identifying cars which are likely to be driven appallingly.

There's a zombie thread flurry going on today!

This has been done many, many, many times.

It has. But what hasn't?

If we only ever started threads on topics that have never been addressed before, Mumsnet would be dead in a week.

@PointsSouth I wonder why this 15 year old thread has been resurrected tho, op could have just started her own one

Ah, yeah. I didn't notice that.

Well, as one who has more than once unwittingly resurrected an old thread by commenting on it, I'd suggest that it popped up on someone's 'related topics' list and they clicked on it without noticing the date, and here we are.

If I thought there was any point, I'd suggest to MN that there should be a cut-off date for stuff that pops up unbidden.

You're aware that the comment you're so angrily responding to is fourteen years old right? I'd forgotten I even had an account!

Yeah, sorry about that. See above.

Not angry, by the way. It was meant more as a shrug.
