to wonder if I'm ever going to be able to sleep for more than 3 hours at a time..

Too long working nights and now my sleep patterns are so completely messed up.. I get three nights off a week and I always fall asleep watching TV by 10pm as I am so tired.. Come to bed and if I'm lucky grab a couple of hours, wake up and then lie awake all night while DH snores his head off...

The only time I sleep anywhere near normal is on the 13th night of our 2 week holiday once each year...

Another night - no sleep - time for another cup of red bush...

Help - I've tried everything - Valerian, Chamomile, passion flower, St John's Wort... Anybody else got an tips..? If you're awake at this time then I guess they don't work..!!

I have no solutions but I'm full of sympathy! DD and DH are both snoring away, I've had 8 hours sleep in 3 days. I will probably drop off just as DD is waking up I have been told that a hops and lavender pillow works but I've not got round to trying it yet.

Treeesa · 13/01/2010 01:56

Yes I bought mself a small lavender herbal pillow from Centre Parcs but DH couldn't stand it next to him so it was abandoned.. Not sure about the hops - must try that - thought it was just good for beer..!

Maybe you need to drink beer and then sleep on the lavender pillow My DH hates the smell of lavender too. I've tried using lavender oil on its own and I'm not sure how effective it was.

Treeesa · 13/01/2010 02:40

If I drink beer or more than two glasses of wine then I snore - apparently it annoys my DH as he says it's more of a top lip flapping in the breeze sound!!..

Break open the Stella!!

I wish I could! I co-sleep with a 15 mo. I say co-sleep, she's the only one doing any sleeping tonight. Meh.

I fell asleep with DD reading her a bedtime story at 7. Woke at 2. Great

StealthPolarBear · 13/01/2010 07:00

oliviasmama · 13/01/2010 07:06

Spent hours trying to sort our summer hol to France, so not too bad, quite a nice job in the middle of a deep, dark, freezing January night really.

goodnightmoon · 13/01/2010 09:19

maybe try an eye mask and some good ear plugs (bio ears)? Those can help shut out any distractions and put you in a sleep bubble, hopefully.

Ronaldinhio · 13/01/2010 09:22

speak to the doctor

he gave me some tablets to reintroduce a sleeping pattern and suggested ear plugs
lavendar bath etc

worked really well

You could try Kalms herbal- I find they work sometimes. You take them throughout the day. There are Kalms sleep tabs but they're not as good.

Don't drink anything with caffeine in after about 4 or 5 pm.

Have a warm bath about an hour before going to bed.

Try not to panic about not being asleep or able to get to sleep. Try and deal with any other worries before you go to bed.

Would your DH consider sleeping on the sofa/in the spare room (if you have one) for a couple of nights? My DH is v understanding about my sleep problems and will happily sleep downstairs (in fact he did last night) to help out.

And if all that fails, do as Ronaldinhio suggests. Sometimes pills are the only things that work. I was on Zopiclone for several years, off and on, as my anxiety about not being able to sleep meant that I would go up to two weeks with only one or two hours a night. Vicious circle.
