To be paranoid about why people keep offering me things

Since my daughter started school in September people have offered us old clothes for the younger children (which at first I accepted as I love free things but now I have enough to last a small army of children so have started saying no). I was literally getting black bags dropped off by one woman!.

Now Its things like people offering to look after the children, so I can do things like "go out and relax" and I have had offers to take my daughter to school. I havent taken anyone up on this but they still offer...

I am starting to get paranoid that I come across as I really poor mad woman who needs help to function day to day, which is (at least partially- I am mad but not bankrupt or anything!) untrue.

I am grateful to people for offering but as far as I can see I am the only one they seem to ask!

Is it unreasonable to tell them to back off and that I dont really need help of any
kind?!

I dont think my children look all that scruffy but I dont know...

Or is this another symptom of my madness?

oh dear. Maybe you should brush your hair and stop carrying cats round in your handbag

Seriously, maybe people just like you! don't worry about it.

I do generally have a hassled look about me - one of my primary school reports describes me looking like a "worried walrus". maybe I have become a grown up worried walrus..

I was overjoyed that I found someone to take all my lovely baby and toddler stuff and that it would be used so perhaps the people offering you the clothes, etc, feel the same way? Nothing worse than taking it to Oxfam and seeing it hurled into a big cage thing when you know there are clothes in there with the labels still on

As for the other offers, bite their hands off! It sounds as if they really do like you and your DC. However much I liked the mum I'd probably not offer help if I didn't also like the DCs.

Accept it, you've done a good job and you're popular!

Worried walrus?? How is that not your MN name?! It's fabulous!

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 12/01/2010 13:17

ROFL at 'worried walrus' maybe you should trim your tusks!

Heqet · 12/01/2010 13:18

oh yes, do change username to that!

Heqet · 12/01/2010 13:19

My DD asked me "mummy what are doing" when she saw me waxing my moustache upper lip. I may have scarred her for life...

kinnies · 12/01/2010 13:20

Fernie,
you havnt been well latley, so maybe they are worried about you.
(hope you are feelin better)

BelleDameSansMerci · 12/01/2010 13:21

I have a moustache and I'm smelly!! Mystery solved...

I'm also rofl at 'worried walrus' what a fab description. I agree with BDSM, much rather clothes went to someone I know who can pick out the stuff they'll use, rather than charity shop. I wouldn't tell them to back off as they're likely to think you're a bit odd and very prickly then. Accept graciously and charity shop the things you won't use!

fernie3 · 12/01/2010 13:41

kinnies - that might be true I suppose I do look pretty rough lately and if they dont know I am pregnant they must think I have something awful wrong with me lol. Maybe I will just publicly annouce I am pregnant to clear things up.
