generally full of extraneous detail none of which sinks in or I will ever remember (although his final point is always worth a listen) which could take up to 5 minutes to answer dd's question which will take 2 seconds to reply to.

TracyK my dh does exactly the same thing- when he's been to the pub. He pauses midsentance for anything up to a minute and instead of saying oh bugger off you're drunk I wait for a reply, prompting regularly. Often he will then start at the beginning of the sentance again before trailing off once more. Generally ends with him admitting he can't remember what he was saying and me struggling to resist the urge to slap him round the head!

DH also uses a pointy stick (like a cocktail stick) when pointing to something on a map - a finger is too 'imprecise'

Clearly he took Scouts and being in the TA too seriously......

Lol, we do "aaaand skip to the end" in this house too!

Lol at LFC's pointy stick dh

Mine is also Mr Rambly. "Make your point caller", I cry. Although like others, much of the time I can barely get him in interested in all the truly fascinating things I find fascinating like, erm, handbags.

What's worse is everyone in his family takes the piss out of my FIL who never, ever gets to the point without everyone listening losing the will to live.

I can see my future only too clearly

NVX - yes, mine is also quite quiet when sober. But stick a drink in him and he takes over all conversation! Nobody else gets to open their mouth! He doesn't want a conversation - he wants an audience. I just go to bed.
