To want to give my as yet unthought of DC5 (who will be a boy) the same name as his just born cousin?

Before you all jump on me at once and tell me IABU (I know I am) you should know these things:
a) The name is Theodore, which was pipped to the post for our DS 16 years ago and has been on the very very short list (of 1, for the boys' names) for every child since then, except they've all been girls
b) DD3 will essentially be an only after a 12 year gap unless we seriously get our skates on (I'm practically 42)
c) my sister has always known that Theodore was on our short list for all our babies
d) She has not asked me if we plan on having another
e) we love the name so much that we were mooting called DD3 Theodora but decided not to in case we have another boy

Actually I feel like changing her name right bloody now and then telling my sister that we've called her Theodora before they can register theirs.

Would it look odd in family photos do you think: Theodore and Theodora, born 4 months apart?

Otter, I know she isn't alone now, but by the time she's 6 all her siblings will be off at university and she'll be left sharing her pork chops at night with her nearing 50 yo parents. We'll have to start doing "young" things I think.

Ah - see I'm touchy because I have an only but wanted at least one more

duchesse · 11/01/2010 15:35

Ah Otter you've just reminded me how very very lucky I am. I tell her every day how lucky we are that she came to live with us.

I'm being ridiculous about this name thing, I know I am. The chances of my ever having another are vanishingly small anyway so I should and shall be glad that they chose a lovely name.

My ex business partner 'stole' my boys name, and 23 years later it still rankles!
And my ds is one of only 3 boys of his generation in this country with his surname, and the other family has named their son with my sons name. Although we never see them, I am furious, my DH says I am BU.................

You should have used it when you had the chance!

I had my Ds and named him George after my grandad. After he was born I bumped into my cousin who's Dw was due to give birth soon after me, they knew they were having a boy and had already decided to call him George after our grandad!

My cousin and I had never discussed names before the boys were born, both had as much right to use the name! We quite enjoy calling them George 1 & 2 now!

I don't understand this ownership of names business. If your sister is really upset (should you use this hypothetical name for your hypothetical child, and if its a boy), call yours Theo or Teddy or something for short.

NomDePlume · 11/01/2010 18:19

how do you know that DC5 which is as yet unconceived will be a boy

MitchyInge · 11/01/2010 18:22

bizarre

read the subject line and thought 'must share hilarious story of how I wanted to call my dog Theo but my single and not even slightly pregnant friend had a total emotional meltdown because she plans to use the name for a future son despite no plans to conceive in the next five years'

must be something about that name?

duchesse · 11/01/2010 18:45

NdeP- that was slightly tongue in cheek
