to think that ordinary WINTER weather shouldn't bring train services to a standstill?

I am SO irked it's unreal. Today it is apparently 1C in London. For the fourth day in a row (sixth if you count the weekend) First Capital Connect have run NO services on the London Thameslink route. The reason? "Extreme weather". WTF? Since when was 1C, a couple of centimetres of residual snow in places, and some slushy ice 'extreme' in early January? Surely it's just called, erm, Winter.

I might understand if we'd had feet of the stuff down here and it was -10C or something, but the snow itself has been minimal in the last week and the temperature is only hovering in and out of freezing. I know other people are having it much worse at the moment, and I have every sympathy, but they're also probably having much worse weather.

So... AIBU?

Nope. Whole country grinds to a halt. It's daft. We need to be better prepared. But that involves spending more money, and what politician wants to tell you your taxes are going up?

It's a sodding nightmare isn't it?

My friend came into London at st pancras and usually gets the thameslink as it's buggy friendly but there were no trains at all - she ended up in a cab.

It is - I have to pick up DS at 6, which is usually fine, I finish at 5.30 and can get a train that gets me there in good time. But I've been having to leave early and get 2 buses which takes over an hour. And tonight I can't leave early and my usual train is cancelled so lord only knows what's going to happen there.

First CRAPital DISconnect! They have the gall to charge £400+ a month for a season ticket.

It was cheaper for my daughter to live in London than commute, especially when you add £120 a month for parking, all to stand for 20 minutes in a packed train to St Pancras.
