In having no idea who Gina Ford is?

Spannerweb · 10/01/2010 23:18

Who is Gina Ford and what sort of things she advises parents to do?

I'm only aware of the woman because I read about her having a strop with Nick Clegg. Will someone tell me who she is?

Personally I have nothing against GF's book. I just do not trust new posters who use the prose style of a 1950s advert. That's all.

LadyGooGoo · 07/02/2010 21:42

Ok, have now seen dates on thread.

Mazstar - youre not doing GF right if at 5 months they still need a dream feed!!

DS2 was one of those coliky high maintenance babies that everyone was telling you about and he still managed to drop that feed earlier than 5 months.

"She saved my life, my child AND my marriage"

Didn't realise GF was so omnipitant, can just imagine her "saving" someones marriage:

8.00 Pour wife a wine

8.45 Wine will be taking effect, suggest wife moves a little closer to you on sofa.

8.55 start to idly squeeze wife's breast

9.15 yawn and suggest an early night

Brush teeth and floss no later than 9.30.

Obviously we have to take all this with a pinch of salt because she MAY not only not be a parent, but she may not have even had sex

LadyGooGoo · 07/02/2010 22:05

Sorry!!

Must add

ALLEDGEDLY

LadyGooGoo · 07/02/2010 22:06

Without prejudice!

And any other techno legal jargon necessary

GF, like all "parenting" books is fine if you are able to cherry pick the most useful bits and adapt it to suit you. The problem is that if you don't have much experience of babies and children, and are relying on it on the absence of other knowledgeable help and support, it can undermine your own newly developing instincts, and set you up for failiure.

I flicked through the book before DS1 was born, and knew it wasn't for me. For starters, I didn't see the bit in the schedule which allowed for bf'ing for 1.5 hours on the sofa, eating Minstrels and watching jeremy kyle

HumphreyCobbler · 07/02/2010 22:31

showofhands, you are brilliant

I agree with every word you say.

scottishmummy · 07/02/2010 22:38

many on mn get incandescent about gf.red mist descends and foam at gob

like many authors she advocates she has the method

you either love it or loathe it

i dont trust any guru and their tips, hell chuck all the baby books listen to your instinct- know your baby trust yourself

BaconWheatCrunchies · 08/02/2010 07:11

Like my Dad kept saying after DS1 was born, you're 2 intelligent adults why do you need a book? But then he also said there's 2 people on this relationship as DS1 was mangling my boobs for the 1st 6 weeks.

I think success with GF is fluke

MrsSaxon · 08/02/2010 11:03

I am a lentil weaving, happy clappy hippy chick, and Gina Ford worked really well for me. I cherry picked some of the advise which was really good, and adapted it to suit my baby and me.

Before becoming a mum I did not have a clue so needed a bit of help.

edam · 08/02/2010 11:16

Thing that puzzles me is the irony of someone who claims their routine will ensure an ordered, reasonable life repeatedly throwing their toys out of the pram. Dunno what routine she's following but she's very far from contented, bless her. Thought getting the lawyers to bully MN was bad enough but now she apparently thinks she can decide the outcome of the general election. That's one massive ego.

Chulita · 08/02/2010 11:40

How do you weave lentils?

Morloth · 08/02/2010 11:47

Carefully.

Chulita · 08/02/2010 11:54
Grin
EssenceOfJack · 08/02/2010 14:01

ladygoogoo.

Kitkatqueen · 08/02/2010 14:18

chulita weaving one at a time whilst tandem feeding works pretty well...

sallyjaygorce · 08/02/2010 14:23

she's a contented little nanny with a contended little agent no doubt

MrsSaxon · 08/02/2010 14:47

The trick with lentil weaving is to get the right type of lentils, dont try it with the red ones.

Slippery little suckers.
