See my point about being surprised that am still alive. In our defence, my brothers would take that insidy bit off and sand down the sharp edges. Was more than likely lethal though.

My DH attended that accident (in a professional capacity) and it's not recommended, although it was probably the location that was to blame mainly, the excessive speed certainly didn't help.

yep, ive seen youngsters do that with the bonnet of cars - madness. I said to my DD (19y) was she going sledging, she said No way mother, i nearly killed myself last year - i shudder to think what she did then because she never told me at the time!!

Well here's my recommendation for impromptu sledge: take one fairly sturdy cardboard box (I use Avon delivery boxes), wrap in a couple of heavy binliners and tape shut.
Works fine and as it's completely flat, you can't fall off it and hurt yourself too badly.

We use a large IKEA bag!

My neighbour has a bath on skis which fits the whole family in!!

I'm sure it's OK buy a second hand booster seat BTW! It can hardly get damaged eh? (most of my car seats are hand me downs but only 1 of our sledges)

I may take dd on her booster seat later on. First thing I'm going to do after I collect her from school is buy us both balaclavas. It is bloody freezing here. I took her sledging on her bum sledge yesterday, I was very to have my enourmous arse bottom hanging over the sides. She was scared I'd break it.
