I genuinely do not know if IWBU earlier.

I was in the local supermarket today (madness on a panic buying Saturday but hey needs must) I finally parked the car (not in p&t as didn't have any children with me)
Went straight to the loo as I was desperate (am pregnant)
When I got there, I had to queue - got chatting to lady in front who went into the first cubicle went it came free. Very small toilet area.
A girl aged 8 or 9 came in and was jumping up and down as she obviously desperate to go too.
One of the 2 cublicles became free and the girl entered it. I ended up saying "sorry sweetheart, I am desperate too and have been waiting"

So, was IBU? I felt rather bad when dh said I was.
Thoughts please

Thanks, my dh will be pleased some agree with him.
I thought at 8 or 9 and the fact she was in the toilet area on her own suggested to me that she was able to understand about queueing.
If she had asked, I would probably have said yes, likewise if it had been a toddler.

Eight is old enough to understand the concept of both queuing and manners. Don't sweat it.

"I thought at 8 or 9 and the fact she was in the toilet area on her own suggested to me that she was able to understand about queueing."

depends really - she might have been out with her dad/other male, or perhaps if it was a small area to wait in her mum had a pushchair and other kids and told her to go in on her own?

I@m on the fence on this one tbh though as to whether yabu

Deff not being unreasonable! First come & all that.

nancydrewrocks · 10/01/2010 08:21

If you were able to hold on for a couple of minutes then you were unreasonable, but yanbu if you were about to wet yourself!

wishingchair · 10/01/2010 09:51

Don't know if you are BU or not. My DD is 6. She's very tall. She could pass for 8 easily. So your 8-9 year old may be quite younger than that. My DD understands concept of queueing and has good manners (most of time) but would not necessarily think to ask a grown up if she could possibly go first. She'd be so focused on the impending accident she'd leg it inot the first loo available.

Fibilou · 10/01/2010 09:56

YANBU. Children have to learn manners and pushing in (especially in a loo Q) is rude

abbierhodes · 10/01/2010 09:58

I agree with wishingchair. It seems like you were just making a point about bad manners, which is a little unreasonable when it comes to a child.

Were you actually going to wet yourself?

rainbowinthesky · 10/01/2010 10:24

Not read all replies but if you are desperate for the loo and pregnant on top then sometimes manners don't seem so important. Yes, that goes for the child as well but every girl for themselves!
Not to mention the op was first anyway.

So, yanbu.
