We are moving out of our rented house at the end of the month and it is up for rent atm. The landlord is lovely but lives miles away so a local letting agent are handling it.

They have my number and have been told by the landlord to contact me to arrange viewings at a convenient time for me.

I have been ill all week and now DD is ill too - DP came over last night (we don't live together yet) and looked after her this morning so I could do some shopping for the first time in days. The house is a tip, DD was still in pyjamas, etc. He rang me as soon as I had got to town to ask if I had agreed to the letting agent conducting a viewing today - er, no

The agent had turned up with keys and a prospective tenant and tried to let himself in! DP was a little surprised [understatement] but the agent insisted he had permission from the landlord to conduct the viewing. Anyway DP refused them entry which went down somewhat badly.

I went straight into their office in town and told them they had no legal right of entry without my permission, to which they hummed and harred and claimed they thought the property was empty. Yeah, thats why the lights were on and a car was on the drive Then they changed their minds and said they had intended to call me to inform me of the viewing but had forgotten.

So I got very irate and told them that they had no business arranging viewings at all without asking me if it was convenient first, and that if they attempted entry without my permission again I would bring a case against the agency for harrassment.

Twats.

I bet they are sorry they crossed swords with you, TheQueen! I think you were quite reasonable to give them a right earful, and I hope they've taken notice.

Good luck with the move.

Good for you!
When we rented our landlady was selling the flat and used to come in when we were out.
We changed the locks.

I should add that we didn't know she was selling and had no idea she was doing viewings.

The agent looked completely flabbergasted to be confronted over it tbh and was such a blithering twat I lost patience. I was still polite, but angrily so.

Its just the last thing you need with an ill child and a messy house, to have some total strangers on the doorstep trying to let themselves in! How dare they?

Unfortunately for them I am well versed in landlord/tenant law

that is really bad of them, you did the right thing to confront. mustnt let them take advantage or they'll take it to the limit
it is so annoying having viewings when landlords are selling, even when they ask permission when its very frequent it gets a bit much, but to nort ask and just come in is totally unacceptable
i would have words with your landlord aswel?

OMG - They have keys and felt they could just let themselves in??? What if you'd been on the toilet with the door open (I do when I'm home alone!) or having sex or were in the shower/bath?

Good for you for having a go at them - plus keeping your cool.
