after three days of being snowed in?

I am already making a list of what to buy and I am hoping that the shelves will be fully stocked when I eventually reach the store...

I am gagging to get out of the house tomorrow, sans dc, and shop, shop, shop

AIBU?

I go to the supermarket once or twice a week. How often do you normally go?

Southwind · 08/01/2010 20:13

Ive been stuck in since Sunday......starting to see things I'm not sure are there....

Marne · 08/01/2010 20:19

I went today, i have only been stuck for 2 days (not a huge amount of snow here) and the supermarket was very busy, lots of food on the shelves but also a lot of people filling trolly's with bread and milk as more snow is expected over the weekend.

It was nice to get out, i hate being stuck in the house.

thisisyesterday · 08/01/2010 20:19

yes. i went today and it was full of idiots panic buying milk and bread and having to have 2 trolleys full of stuff

and the carpark was all snowy so you couldn't see the spaces and people had just parked all over the place. including all over the disabled spaces.

I'm usually a just-in-time type of food-shopper and visit at least one supermarket every day (using that term loosely to include the local Tesco Express, Co-op, etc). We seem to go through short-life stuff very quickly, i.e. milk, bread and OJ.

I think it's because I've been housebound since Tuesday. I would never be able to live in a really rural area...I need the bright lights of Tesco Metro

would like to add, after not daring to put DD in car for fear of skidding, i "risked" it today after being stuck in and lost my temper at the dinner table when she talk, talk, talks instead of eating and i thought thats it, out we go. quite a drive in this weather to sainsbo but did it (for nectar points) how sad is that! will build up for next Christmas! was nice to be around people even though no interaction but DD sings her way round and holds on to trolley, most find this amusing. shelves at 3.30p.m. beginning to get a bit lean, especially meat i found but frozen meat available. did not check out milk as I have a milkman and unbelievably he has got through all this snow for routine days. bless him, well worth the £5.00 tip i gave him. ha ha. big up to all milkmen.

GetOrfMoiLand · 08/01/2010 20:37

I thought all the shelves would be empty, but when I went yesterday (Asda, not my first choice but nearest supermarket) they had loads of stuff, including bread and milk.

Was like bloody Christmas in there, though, people stocking up. What's wrong with the morons?

The car park was like an ice rink though.

saltyseadog · 08/01/2010 20:41

YANBU - I can't wait to get out of the house, I have a bad case of cabin fever (have also been in since Tuesday).

YanknCock · 08/01/2010 20:42

GetOrf, we also have Asda as our nearest so went there today and saw the panic buying. Bread aisle almost completely empty, but milk seemed ok. Awfully crowded in there for 3pm, but I think it was because the BBC news told everyone to head for the shops today as the weekend is meant to be worse.

I was hoping we could hold out for a Tesco online delivery, but they'd never make it down our street. I hate shopping in person, can never find anything, takes ages, back hurting from steering heavy trolley with wonky wheels.

Still, nice to get out for a bit!

Cyclops · 08/01/2010 20:44

I ventured into Waitrose on Tuesday afternoon (I have no loyalty, I patronise all the main stores!) and was a bit suprised to find the carpark gridlocked and the store bursting with people. I truly did not realise at the time that they were all busy panic buying (hadn't seen the forecast!) and that it would be my last chance to join them for more than three days!

I only hope the roads are a little easier tomorrow otherwise my jaunt will be postponed...

I wouldn't drool over the thought of exciting meals since the panic buyers seem to have been out with a vengeance. At Waitrose too!

I can quite understand a fancy for going out but shops, as the White Hell continues, are only amusing if you can turn the experience into a commentary.
