To think snow + ice = stupid people day?

So we have about an inch and a half of solid ice over most of the roads and all of the pavements here and so far I have seen...

A car trying to do 30mph at least along my road, (volvo estate) and when he got to the junction he just slid across it because he could not stop, thankfully nothing coming the other way.

Two girls (about 15 years old) walking along in short skirts Ugg boots and little jackets. They were clearly shivering

On having to go in to town today (dressed in ski clothing and strong walking boots) I saw two women in a car trying to get in to a way too small parking space as an old bloke walked very slowly across the road behind them and almost got run over

A woman letting a child of about 3 push a little one of about 10 months in a pushchair down a sloping bridge

Endless women in stupid boots with hills tottering along like bimbos on ice

And two children eating McDonalds ice cream!!

Is it me or does the snow do something to people to make them more stupid then usual?

herbietea
I think you need to say something that is really evil to make children go out in this.

I hate to be cold so I am one of those saddos clever people who go out dressed in full ski get up.

I saw someone in flip flops, with no socks, have also seen bare legged girls in short skirts.

KimiLovesHerFamily · 09/01/2010 09:43

I do not know why they think having legs so cold they look like corned beef is sexy...yuck

3 wheelers are great in this weather.

I will yell at the next idiot driver I see go past who has only cleared a dinner plate sized patch of snow from his windscreen, leaving 6" of the stuff over the rest of the car. Twats.

pooexplosions · 09/01/2010 11:30

Why the feck wouldn't you push a buggy in -6 cold? Are we supposed to stay in the house for the entire month if we have small children?

The first night it snowed - before Christmas - I was at a Christmas do and when it came time to leave I found I had a walk of a coupld of hundred yards to my car in very high stilletto boots. I had brought some sensible boots with me but like the moron that I am had left them in the car.

I contemplated the three inches of snow with trepidation, considered walking to my car in my stocking feet, and then braved it, imagining I would be on my arse within three steps.

It was a doddle! I was very surprised.

These stilletto ladies might now something you don't. [Disclaimer - this is not a recommendation]

herbietea I grew up in Canada and we always went outside at lunchtime in those conditions! Though we were dressed for it-people here don't seem to have as much in the way of proper winter clothing, and it is downright criminal how some are dressing their dcs right now (saw little girl in ds reception class yesterday wearing short summer skirt and ankle socks).

BalloonSlayer · 09/01/2010 11:42

I am enjoying reading the Top Trumps game of stupidity/inappropriate clothing.

"Well I saw a girl in a bikini trying to sunbathe (10 points for unsuitable clothing)"

"Yeah but I saw someone taking their newborn home from the maternity unit on a bicycle with the new mother on the crossbar. And she only had her slippers on!" (10 points for stupidity and 5 for the slippers)

The chavs seem to be getting particularly competitive round here. Last week, pelmet length skirts, bare legs and fake Ugg boots were favoured "style" choice. This week, sleeveless boob tubes have trumped the whole, sorry caboodle!

But they are young. They look ridiculous. Isn't that the whole point of being young?

madusa · 09/01/2010 17:42

my dd and i went out today to town both wrapped up warmly and we saw some lads on the frozen lake with big sticks breaking holes in the ice they are standing one.

Why would anyone be that stupid?

WingedVictory · 09/01/2010 17:49

I'm wearing my heeled boots, as I get a better grip on the snow! They are actually the most practical footwear I own for this weather!

Makes me look a bit silly to other women, but I'm sure men and children don't notice
