Tuesday morning their was an "incident" at a county school invovling "suspicious" behaviour by a man/2 men and a 6yr old girl.

There have been rumours flying around that there have been more attempts elsewhere in the county and a facebook status update going around locally saying

"Please be aware when taking your kids to school there was an attempted abduction at the XXXXXXXX Juniors this morning and 2 further failed attempts in XXXXXXXXX yesterday, following the XXXXXXXXXXX attempt on Tuesday. Its 2 men saying they are school officials."

The ONLY one that happened (And it doesn't even say attempted abduction, or abut the 2 men saying they are school oifficals) was the initial one on the Tuesday. And indeed the latest update on the police website says

"We are aware that a number of unfounded rumours and descriptions have been circulating, these have not been issued by the police and would urge people to look at our website for an accurate report on the situation."

I posted to say as such on one friend's profile and am being shot down for it! I pointed out that of COURSE we want to keep our children safe, but circulating unfounded rumours and gossip only creates hysteria instead......

OP I'd get this thread deleted, If people click the link, I think maybe people can work out who you are

Jamieandhismagictorch · 07/01/2010 18:13

The poor spelling, capitals and copious !!!!!! would alert me to the crapitudes being spouted on that FB page

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 07/01/2010 18:16

nah - not worried about that - I've posted links to my photo albums on FB before now

I can't believe that over 3,000 people have joined the group.

QOD · 07/01/2010 18:57

Hey Hellbent! YOu must live near me cos that happened in the Asda near me
People are soooooooo thick sometimes, does me 'ead in.
I keep getting emails about joining groups to stop the killers of James Bulger getting new ID's
Ummmm about 10 yrs too late

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 07/01/2010 19:02

but for a much lovelier group have a look at this one.......

I've just joined it as my brother had - and am now going to keep checking back to see if the current "claimant" is actually the one........and if he's not if the owner is found.

Aw...I'm going to forward that one to my bro... he was in Edinburgh with his fiancee for NY, she might know who they are. They look like a nice bunch!

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 07/01/2010 21:16

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 07/01/2010 21:44

Wow I'm impressed by the amount of people who live near my Asda

cascade · 07/01/2010 22:19

Awas are you talking about the boy in the town beginning with N.

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 07/01/2010 22:37

cascade - I am indeed.

OP posts:
cascade · 07/01/2010 22:42

yeh, Iknow someone who works at the school.

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 07/01/2010 22:44

go on then........attempted abduction yes or no? (I'm joking I know that if you do know something that hasn't been released by the police you can't actually tell me)

OP posts:
cascade · 07/01/2010 22:47

From what I know (reliable source aka teacher) boy was grabbed by the hood his jacket wasnt done up properly wriggled free and legged it into school. Schoolthen informed police.

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 07/01/2010 22:50

fair do's - I stand corrected on the question no of whether it was a possible attempted abduction or not then.

(I still think that 99% of what people are posting on the group is hysteria though)

OP posts:
cascade · 07/01/2010 22:52

no i think your right though awas as theres loads of rumours flying around right now at the moment. Ie heard about the other ones as well.

cordonbleugh · 07/01/2010 22:56

ALFA, have you seen what KJ has put in a comment to one of your posts on the group wall?! bloody loon! And totally out of order!

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 07/01/2010 22:58

ridiculous amount of rumours flying around - you should trying being a (fairly sane and realistic) parent in one of the local schools right now - utter madness LOL.

I didn't doubt that something had happened (police wouldn't be appealing for information otherwise) - but my the mass hysteria driving me bonkers.

Friend at toddlers today showed me a whole heap of texts she's had since Tuesday with all sorts of rumours/gossip in them.

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 07/01/2010 22:59

yes I have........did my reply not come up??

CBA with it now tbh - it's just getting stupid on there. I have zoos and farms on FB to tend to, children to look after in the morning, MN to keep up with, an OU course to start next month (and I'm sure that group will stay active with all sorts of nonsense on it for many months to come).........

OP posts:
cordonbleugh · 07/01/2010 23:06

your reply to her where she tells you to get you facts right etc etc is there, I'm on about your earlier post about children being more at risk from people you know and "trust".

Very personal and inflammatory commment from her, which compelled me to join the group just so I could politely tell her to piss off!

cordonbleugh · 07/01/2010 23:08

I know what you mean, all people need to do is keep an eye on the police updates, and be a little extra vigilant if they're that worried about it.

LauraIngallsWilder · 07/01/2010 23:09

Alfa - is the initial 'incident' mentioned in your op genuine in itself
I sounds just like a scaremongering rumour from ages ago, rejuvenated with a few details altered

Surely all genuine stories like this would be on the national news -which this one hasnt to my knowledge

People are so silly
And facebook is foolish - My new years resolution, do not give in to temptation to sign up!

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 07/01/2010 23:14

ooooooo yes - have just responded to that.
