to think playing in the snow is only fun for about 10 mins?

Build snowman, throw a few snowballs.

Sledging more fun, but problem if the only suitable hill is too far away to walk and roads are too dangerous to drive on. Also we don't have a sledge, only the run-off bit from the children's slide. So personally I thought the best bit about the children being off school was being able to stay in.

I agree, happy to sledge but the whole snowman building, snowballing bit is shite after 10 minutes and I'm always trying to bribe them inside with hot chocolate!

compo · 06/01/2010 21:06

too wet and cold, yanbu

TimothyTigerTuppennyTail · 06/01/2010 21:06

5 minutes max.

LittleB · 06/01/2010 21:16

YABU! Snow is great fun, me and dd (4.8) were out for an hour this morning - building a snowgirl, then an hour again this afternoon playing. No sledging - like you hills are too far away. But it all looks so beautiful - as dd said this morning. And they run around giggling and falling over making snow angels together! Take a spare pair of gloves with, two pairs of socks under the wellies, a hot chocolate and biscuits when you gethome (you've worn off that many calories freezing outside anyway) and just have fun! The dog loves it too, chases the snowballs and rolls in the snow. However my chickens would agree with you having spent most of the day in their house - I evicted them to get them to eat their morning porridge and some corn.
I figure lifes too short - you have to make fun where you can.

Oh I'm about a 30 seconds type of girl.
I HATE playing in the snow. I fall over too much, I worry about everyone else falling over.

I hate it. I don;t know if my DH enjoys it but he does it with the girls so they aren;t missing out on anything but I steadfastly refuse and stay inside and do the ironing or the tidying generally.

wasabipeanut · 06/01/2010 21:43

Uuurggghhh I loathe it. Luckily DH is more outdoorsy and took DS out to build a snowman. And a snow dog incidentally. I waved encouragingly from the sofa with the paper, a cup of raspberry leaf tea and a biscuit.

I'm just not the outdoor type.

TidyBush · 06/01/2010 21:48

Thank goodness mine have decided they are too old now to play in the snow - they've spent the day in their PJs (me too )

Julezboo · 06/01/2010 22:39

This is why I am glad my two are still little enough to be picked up and brought dragged in kicking and screaming. DS2 (who btw hated snow just before xmas) was sat in it soaked right through for an hour or so this morning just throwing snow balls at the wall... It didnt get boring for him!

Hassled · 06/01/2010 22:42

Not even 10 minutes. I bloody hate playing in the snow - it stems from those lovely young lads at school putting stones in the snowballs before they threw them.

maristella · 06/01/2010 22:44

yanbu - i fell over within 2 minutes of being outside - deep joy! then fell over another 10 or so times

MrsBadger · 06/01/2010 22:44

only fun if dressed for it

we were out this morning for an hour + but all in full ski kit

cold and wet is no fun

hmc · 06/01/2010 22:49

Managed a whole hours (preens). But novelty had decidedly worn off by then

maristella · 06/01/2010 23:05

We did short bursts - of about 10 minutes each time . But we did manage to build a life-sized snowman sitting on our bench (something I've always wanted to do but never had enough snow), have lots of snowball fights and DH pulled DS1 up and down the street on his sledge. (He also gave me a turn and I was shrieking like a banshee - unfortunately just as my line manager at work rounded the corner .)

Just ice tomorrow - so we'll be in all day .

ChippingIn · 07/01/2010 12:05

Bathsheba - you're a nut job - you'd rather be ironing than out in the snow???? Mad woman, mad!

Of course, I can say that from the warmth of a full ski kit

littlerach · 07/01/2010 12:14

Dd2 and i managed 15 mins this morning.

By then my fingers were white and blue and her feet hurt!

But sh ehad been lying in the snow ot make angels

Yesterday we managed half hour bursts!

BendyBob · 07/01/2010 12:16

I can only take about half an hour outside and that's me done where snow is concerned

With dc though - they go out - come in wet and crying with cold. They dry off, warm up then they want to go out again. In and out constantly. We've gone through about thirty pairs of gloves and hats I think.

Mybox · 07/01/2010 12:35

It's only fun until they get wet & cold. Mine have ski/cold weather waterproof outfits so can last awhile outside. Once feet are cold then it's back inside
