by walking up and down the hill with a bucket full of gritting salt and a spade, whilst it was snowing!

We live on top of a hill, and getting up or down always horrendous as there is not much to hold on to.

Why oh why didn't I go up to him and thank him?

So... If any of you had a frozen-to-death dh returning with an empty bucket, please thank him from bruise-less me.

At least you had grit, our council took all our barrels away!!!!! what idiots!!

MisSalLaneous · 07/01/2010 18:48

How odd! Have they gritted roads there? I wonder if they are perhaps low on salt, or just really silly.

I felt a bit guilty - never occurred to me to go to the barrel and grit pavement myself!

haha they gritted the main roads but stopped when it came to us mear village folk haha

Grit? What is this strange thing you talk of? Dd1 nearly missed school because there is sludge laying on top of the ice that has been there weeks, but there is none of this grit that you speak of anywhere.

Did he dig up the snow first?

aSilverLining · 08/01/2010 09:29

I did this down our terrace yesterday, was great for a few hours then several inches of snow fell on top, may as well have not bothered.

We have community grit boxes on streets, but two near me almost empty. Think council here only gritting bus routes as running low on it.

Bronze, no, I don't think so, it was just a thin layer of snow, so everywhere he gritted you can still walk. To the sides it's icy and slippery.

We're in SE London though, so I doubt it would have worked as well in areas with heavier snow.

I did have a chat with a lady who was removing the snow and ice from the pavement in front of her house with a shovel this morning, as I thought it's very considerate!

On a separate note, I still managed to capsize the buggy and fall on my bum this morning. Nothing but egos hurt, luckily.
