To ask someone NOT to take pictures of my kids without asking?

I took my kids out earlier to play in the snow and there was a mother with her son (aged prob about 11ish) and she was getting close to my children while the were playing in the snow and taking pictures of them. If she had asked me and there was a reason, ie she was a photographer for a local paper, I might not have had an issue with it but I had never seen her before and I wasn't particularly happy with her taking direct picture of them.

If they had been in the background of shots she was taking I probably wouldn't have said anything but AIBU to have asked her not to take direct pictures of them?

Lady was it you that was taking photos of the OP's children without asking?

overmydeadbody · 06/01/2010 19:46

Has Lady had a hard day?

It's not a stupid question at all.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 06/01/2010 19:54

I think Lady's point was that in her opinion, there was no way the OP was being unreasonable, so it was a bit like posting "AIBU to turn the heating on now it is -42 degrees?"

It might be polite to ask but I think you are being overly protective. Children having fun & playing in snow, who wouldn't want to take photos to capture the elation? It's so sad to view everyone with suspicion.

It's always courteous to ask although I do think it is sad that we live in a society so riddled with suspicion.

Since I do take pictures for newspapers, I make sure that I show my Press Card and explain that any pictures I take might be published. Which is standard behaviour. As an amateur snapper who was basically taking snaps of her child too, this woman probably never thought to seek permission.
