To think if I have to drag myself in snow to school...

that they should be teaching kids something?
DD1 school is always open, even in heavy snow, the head teacher has been known to travel around in her 4x4 to collect staff so they can open school (that woman is no fun!). So today, i drag DD1 to school, in inches of snow. When I collect her this afternoon, they are there letting children go before the bell (which is fine) by their TA. Turned out both DD1s teachers left early today to get home as they live far and worried about snow. DD1 said they didnt learn much at all as no teachers there

I dont blame the teachers leaving early, but dont see why they just dont do a snow day if rather that risk teachers and the children learning nothing.

So AIBU??

Seems reasonable to close if they dont have teachers, maybe they will shut tomorrow. I can understand about notplaying it the snow though as they would have been wet with no dry clothes to change into.

DId you send in a change of clothes for your child?

lisad123wantsherquoteinDM · 06/01/2010 16:20

Dd1 is at secondary school and had to go in, but said she hardley did any work, and had no lunch because the kitchen didn't put enough out, so she shared a burger with someone.

Not impressed.

sanfairyann · 06/01/2010 16:27

I sent them in last year and same thing happened so this year I decided to keep them off anyhow (in the end the school closed anyway)

compo · 06/01/2010 16:36

MrsM - that is ing
They shoulfd have closed if there wasn't enough food

MummyDragon · 06/01/2010 18:59

Well, at the risk of disagreeing with everyone else - when the schools do close, loads of parents complain because they don't have any other childcare facilities! Sounds as though your headmistress was trying her best to please everybody, tbh.

(Am married to a teacher!)

Ds's school is open from 11am until 3:15 tomorrow. What's the point?? I have a lecture with the wicked witch from the west tomorrow at 9-12, I've emailed but she's going to give me hell.

I agree with Lockets. The school can't win either way.

On snowy days IME there tend to be a fair number of children who don't go in to school even when it's open. If half the class are missing then it's pointless starting new work and then having to over it all over again when everyone comes back to school.

The HT was doing her best IMHO so YABU.
