they have to go out and dodge all the abandoned cars, and people who can't drive in the snow.
the poor old gritters probally get moaned at as well.

I totally agree, my dad works for a county council and is in charge of sorting out gritting and snow ploughs etc, he came back after work everyday with stories and stories of people's nasty phonecalls and emails saying they weren't doing enough. Such a shame because the gritters do a fantastic job and work such unreasonable hours- and the thanks they get is minimal. Not their fault if superiors didn't order enough grit this year.

Our main road is in much better condition than it was during the snowfall before Christmas - shame the buses aren't running this time though.

YANBU
I saw the blokes behind the van shovelling grit with their shovels this morning - and without even wearing gloves! Sterling work.

midnightexpress · 06/01/2010 12:06

Yep. I agree. They are certainly doing a pretty good job round here (Glasgow) given the circumstances.

Pixel · 06/01/2010 15:35

Emergency services great I agree, but what are these gritters of which you speak? Can't say we've seen any up here.

RockBird · 06/01/2010 15:38

Definitely agree. And also the people who do outside jobs who are still battling on. I've had the milkman and the postman deliver today, both of whom I didn't expect. It's different if you're in an office but to be trudging around in it... Well done lads!

maybe they do but I haven't seen either of them round here. And a bus ha ha ha ha !

BelleDameSansMerci · 06/01/2010 19:01

Yes, I think they do... Not their fault that local councils (including Kirklees in Yorkshire FFS) haven't stocked enough grit/salt.

Think emergency services pretty much always do a brilliant job.
