to not want to go to work tomorrow?

10cm of snow is forecast overnight, plus icy conditions on the roads.

I walk a mile to get to my work. I wouldn't normally mind, it's just that I'm 13wks pregnant and worry about slipping over on the way (I don't have terribly suitable footwear - a pair of DM boots is about the extent of it).

Tomorrow would be my first day back at work after Christmas and I planned to tell them about my pregnancy then.

I could tell a white lie and say that my MIL can't get into town to take my DS so I have to stay home... Or should I just be honest, tell my boss about the pregnancy and say I don't want to risk it? Or should I just go in?

If you were going to tell them tomorrow anyway, just be honest.

ChippingIn · 05/01/2010 17:51

Hmmm you should probably do as diedandgonetodevon says and be honest. However, if it were me I think I'd either just go in or lie and say that MIL can't get to town to take DS. I don't think I'd want to tell them I was pregnant & not go in as I'd be concerned that they'd think my whole pregnancy was going to be a hassle for them

But what if I call her, tell her I'm pregnant and don't want to risk walking in, and she tells me I have to come in?

Well only you know how reasonable (or not) she is but I doubt many people would expect a pregnany lady to walk to work in those conditions.

Can you get public transport/taxi? I agree with ChippingIn about the telling them about the pregnancy and them thinking it was just the start of hassles for your employer. Plus it's always nicer to tell people good news like yours face to face

Yes, I'd rather tell them in person, definitely.

Will assess tomorrow when I know exactly what the situation is.
