did the whole Trafalgar Square thing once, it was fun, everyone happy, policemen dancing, great city, all lit up, you could not hear Big Ben, special atmosphere, big old sing song on the night bus home, hilarious!

it was romantic kissing DH under Nelson's Column under a clear moonlit sky at midnight!

not nice things were all the men pissing agains the new wing of the national portrait gallery and the river off piss!

would not do it again though, am older and want my comforts!

Tis the realm of the young and sozzled.
I'm too old and wrinkly nowadays, but enjoyed several NYEs in London.
The atmosphere was fab.
(I'd still rather go there than stick pins in my eyes though )

yy is cos we are oldies

when we were younger we didn't care about comfort

We did the New Year thing in London last year. Left it too late to get near the embankment but were lucky enough to get a spot right in front of Downing street looking down towards the wheel. Got a great view of the fireworks but then had to walk from there all the way back to the city where DH has a flat at the time. The crush through Trafalgar Square was quite scary (DDs were 10 and 12). Glad we did it but wouldn't bother again.

I did one in Berlin once. Pre children.

It was fab. Far too much German beer and lot's of singing and dancing.

Lord my head the next morning, i don't think i have ever had a hangover so bad since.

It was worth it.

Not quite the same but we spent a couple of New Years on Brighton Beach watching fireworks when they did it. I think it was '99 and the Millenium.

Obviously the beach is quite big so the crowds weren't so erm...crowded. It was fun.

Now I have children though I hven't ventured out of my front door on NYE except to work for many years.

Did Edinburgh quite a lot when I lived there - before it became barriered.....couldn't get tickets after that

I thought the same thing last night, just watching the folk standing on the embankment opposite the London Eye at midnight.

Some people (inc families with children) had been there since 4:30, 6 1/2 hours standing in the freezing cold, waiting for Midnight. DS would have been bored and cold, and driven us loopy long before the fireworks started.

As for standing in Trafalgar Square, I imagine surrounded by drunks, being pushed and shoved, no ta. I was happier in our living room watching Harry tell Sally he loved her, TVM.

Mind you, I do yearn for the lovely dinner dances we used to go to in posh frocks and Dinner Jackets, in the days before DS .

I do get a slight nagging feeling that everyone is having more fun than us on NYE.
