AIBU to not want my sleep-deprived DD to stay up until midnight?

My mother thinks I am.

Perhaps it is one of those strange false-memory things but I'm pretty sure I wasn't allowed to do that at her age anyway!

My toddler is a horrifically bad sleeper. He is usually up for an hour or so twice a night and is even more unsettled since Daddy and DD have been about all day every day.

I've told my parents that he has taken to galloping up the stairs and pulling dd out of bed so that she can play with him at all hours, or vaulting over her as she sleeps in order to hide from the adult trying to put him in his cot.

DH and I have been fair, we think, and she has had quite a few late nights in order to finish watching the Christmas films, but today she looked fecking terrible, really pale and washed out which to me indicates the need for a few early nights.

Am I a mean old meany? If DS wasn't the way he is then I might suffer the hardship of letting her watch back-to-back Johnny Depp Pirate films until it was time to let the New Year in and the Old Year out but under these circumstances?

Oops sorry, DD is nine. Missed that on the title and now the second sentence could mean all sorts

TheBlasphemousShadow · 31/12/2009 21:25

YANBU! I would be in bed if I could and both of my children certainly are (until 5am )

Boys2mam · 31/12/2009 21:28

Nope, you have to deal with the fallout so you should be able to do things your way.

YANBU. We are letting DS1 (8) stay up for the first time, but he's had a few early nights to prepare. Mind you, we've also let him choose the entertainment up until 10 which means we're having to sit through the DVD of Joseph with Donny Osmond...

Heffthelump · 31/12/2009 22:08

YANBU.

mumblecrumble · 31/12/2009 22:09

if it helps: I;m 28 and I plan to be asleep in the next 30 mins. Better to be fresh tomorrow...

Kaloki · 31/12/2009 22:17

YADNBU. Even I'm hoping to be asleep soon!

Foxy800 · 31/12/2009 22:24

YANBU, we have been invited to a party but lo's sleep has been disturbed for awhile now due to virus after virus but last couple of nights has been more settled so dp has gone to the party and I have stayed in so as not to disturb her routine ( wouldnt normally mind but only just getting back on track after a few weeks of viruses!!).

At the end of the day you are her parent so should be allowed to make the decisions wothout being made to feel guilty.

YANBU! Why does a 9 year old need to stay up to see the New Year in at that age anyway?!
