just heard the first of the fireworks, am typing this with a quivvering jack russle on my lap . but i hate it all really, time to reflect on the past year - well, it was shit so thats that - i guess it can only better. We haven't been out at new year for i cant remember how long, even before DD2 - i think the last new years party i want to was, OMG 1999! What a fecking bore that was! kissing people i didnt know, kissing people i didnt LIKE!

To me, NYE has always symbolised the end of christmas - i'll take the tree down on saturday and that will be it, back to reality with a bang.

I'm not a miserable old bag, but its, well, its boring isnt it?

Yep it's dull.

Who the hell wants to QUEUE to get into a stinking Wetherspoons and then kiss the freak that happens to be stood next to you?! Madness.

IMoveTheStarsForChristmas · 31/12/2009 21:00

YANBU - very glad that I don't have to go out. no babysitter.. woo! :-p

Tee2072 · 31/12/2009 21:01

I hate NYE. Its an excuse for pubs/restaurants to charge 3x the price for the same meal I can have during the week.

DH and I are sharing a bottle of champagne and watching Star Trek. No baby sitter needed!

ijustwanttoaskaquestion · 31/12/2009 21:04

well, my DP is putting DD to bed, we have a bottle of wine his mate gave him, that a client gave him, half a bottle of baileys - a normal night here then!!!

I don't like it. Over hyped and too many people just get utterly wankered. Makes me feel uneasy around them.

CirrhosisByTheSea · 31/12/2009 21:24

Smallships you have summed up NYE better than anyone ever has Totally agree. Always find NYE a dud, specially since being a mum because we don't have anyone to babysit and never go out, and all our friends have teeny kids and are too housebound and knackered to come to us!

We have another mini christmas day on new years day though which I do love - big roast dinner, wine, making resolutions/plans for the year ahead...it's fun

browntrout · 31/12/2009 21:25

hate it here too. pressure to have a great time whe you are out (and is always dreadful) and feel like failure if you stay in and opt out. neighbours are having a party and came round to invite me and 2 DDs (one is 7 weeks). declined and had good grounds to do so but felt like a miserable old cow. shame really cos I like Christmas - they should be further apart really.

BigBadMummy · 31/12/2009 21:27

Yep, totally agree.

Going out for the sake of it and being ripped off.

Kids at ex-H so no babysitting woes but we still have decided to stay in.

Downing our second bottle of fizz now so could well be asleep by 11pm.

mumonthenet · 31/12/2009 21:35

also agree, can't be bothered unless there's a nice thing organised with people I esteeeeem!

dh is about to take the younger dc's to the beach for the fireworks and a concert. Eldest is staying with friends.

I am slowly working my way thru a bottle of wine. Fantastic. May or may not be awake at midnight but who cares!

deaddei · 31/12/2009 21:55

Hate it.
In fact just off to bed with my book- dh is watching some crap with Gryf Rhys Jones.
Night night.

We usually stay in on NYE since having children and I don't miss the going out. Everywhere's too packed and too expensive.
Last year we went to a fancy dress new year's party at a friend's house with all the children running around, which was fun. But not bothered about staying in this year.
