I got a HNY text from someone whose number I don't have in my phone anymore. Haven't decided whether to reply or not. I turned my phone off at half 10 and only got a message at half 8 so could have left it on.

Mariannedreams · 01/01/2010 09:18

Fab I had a Christmas one from someone whose number wasn't recognised any more as well...totally freaked me out. I had to ask who it was - it was just a friend I used to see but don't any more as I don't really like her much.
I think she was trying to make me feel guilty.
Nice!

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 01/01/2010 09:22

I kind of recognise the number but if I asked who is was one person would answer and not be bothered, but the other potential person might be bothered, but I have no intention of staying in touch so don't know what to do. DH said they are not in my phone for a reason.

MummyTumble · 01/01/2010 09:23

I got xmas texts from people that had also sent me xmas cards I had sent them cards too, and fb messages wishing happy xmas and new year. So i can't be bothered to reply.

How many xmas and new year wishes do people need??? Switched my phone off last night too.....

ChippingIn · 01/01/2010 09:49

Oh what a bunch of grumble guts!

Hulababy · 01/01/2010 09:56

Just turn your phone off if you don't want them, or turn it to silent.

I sent lots of texts - personal ones, not chain ones - just after midnight to wish family and friends a happy new year.

I recieved lots too, and have recieved some more this morning.

CirrhosisByTheSea · 01/01/2010 10:09

All these people falling over themselves to send you good wishes...what a bore for you

CirrhosisByTheSea · 01/01/2010 10:09

that was not to you Hulababy by the way just lots of messages on this thread!

BalloonSlayer · 01/01/2010 10:18

I got one from someone who is not on my phone. I practically never give my number out either. Would IBU to text back with "and who the fuck are you then?"

carocaro · 01/01/2010 10:21

How totally and utterly hideous, a message from a friend wishing you a HNY.

The agony.

You moaning misery negative tossers.

How about they all come round and kick you in the tits instead, will you be happy then?

Kaloki · 01/01/2010 10:26

I don't mind the messages, however I don't do new years, and last year I forgot to switch my phone off. So my new year was started with a very rude awakening. Learnt my lesson this year!

CirrhosisByTheSea · 01/01/2010 10:26
Grin
Mariannedreams · 01/01/2010 10:30

What is so great about a text from Tesco.com? They don't give a shite whether you have a good new year or not.

I think people saying we are miserable are missing the point.

Text messages are a separate format to most other means of communicating.

They can be used as an excuse to avoid people the rest of the year, to make people feel guilty, to resurrect bad feeling in a cowardly manner, as well as the good ways.

Nobody here objects to a nice, well intentioned and genuine message.

I suspect some of these chain ones and crappy poems are initiated by the mobile companies themselves...it must be one night that they make a fortune.

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 01/01/2010 10:34

Balloon - I have texted to ask who it is and they said a relation (who I don't have) and they know my name. Not replied to me now.

carocaro · 01/01/2010 10:35

Who knew txt messages could be so demonic?

It's never occured to me to use one to 'resuurect bad feeling in a cowardly manner'

Ooh this techno - age is something to be very scared off.

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 01/01/2010 10:38

I just feel bad now as I obviously don't recall who this is (do you live near toys r us? my secret texter?) and so I feel bad about that and wonder why they can't just say who they are.

Mariannedreams · 01/01/2010 11:47

Fab that is crap, if they're going to play mind games just delete and block them if you can. Don't waste your energy feeling bad, it's their problem.

Caro if you are being facetious just please give it a rest. You've obviously been fortunate enough not to have experienced this kind of rubbish yourself.

TillyMintSpy · 01/01/2010 11:54

BigbadMummy, I had that snuggle in your inbox one too - wierd

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 01/01/2010 11:55

Marianne - I think it might be an ex trying to be funny.

Mariannedreams · 01/01/2010 14:23

Oh no, not that ex?

What a twonk. Are you OK?

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 01/01/2010 14:31

I just texted to ask if it was him and it has come back no, they had the wrong number. Very strange that I have the same name as the person they were meant to be texting.

therednosedcariboo · 01/01/2010 14:47

lol @ "kick you in the tits"! We are a bunch of miseries, arent't we? If we can be bothered to whinge away on MN, it can't require too much more effort to return greetings to RL friends & family.

Will switch phone on & get busy.

tinalane · 01/01/2010 15:07

Well I texted HNY to an ex who I still care for & I know cares for me & I had one back saying Who Is This?

Perhaps ex gave the phone to somebody!!!

(so it works both ways)
