For thinking SIL should have more control over her kids??

Just been to visit my elderly grandmother.

SIL also turned up with nephews aged 9 and 11. They were running riot. Deliberately dropping chocolate all over the carpet. shaking lemonade up and then opening it. diving on my grandmother. Making Optomis Prime have a willy and then the 11 year old squatted over the biscuit tin and started making fart noises.

SIL just sat there laughing. AIBU to think she should have controlled them? grandma was not impressed.

She should have controlled them, but I wouldn't say anything

edam · 31/12/2009 14:50

They sound like right charmers.

Still, never mind, I guess Granny's million pound nest-egg will all be coming to your side of the family.

chocolaterabbit · 31/12/2009 14:57

Yes, she probably should have done. Did your grandmother say anything?

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 31/12/2009 14:59

Sounds quite rude TBH. She must think that kind of behaviour is acceptable.

dodgyovaries · 31/12/2009 15:01

My DS 9yo has ADHD and he doesn't behave like that without medication.

Then again........I wouldn't allow it, ADHD or not!

jasper · 31/12/2009 15:02

I know those boys

mumeeee · 31/12/2009 15:18

YANBU. That is unaccetable behaviour for children of that age. Actaully would be unaccetable for anychild over the age of 4.

HappyNewYearFromKimi · 31/12/2009 15:30

SIL had clearly given up on parenting

Trafficcone · 31/12/2009 15:33

Revolting behaviour and I'd be disciplining them myself if I was there, whether their Mother wanted me to or not! Their poor teachers...

pigletmania · 31/12/2009 15:33

Yes she should have had more control over her kids they are not young kids fgs, poor granny. That behaviour imo is unacceptable and rude.

"Making Optomis Prime have a willy and then the 11 year old squatted over the biscuit tin and started making fart noises"

I'm sorry, this is terrible behaviour but I can't help but ROFL at this sentence - it's something I never thought I would read.

ps, terrible behaviour on the part if the children - I'm not doing any harm laughing at my laptop in the privacy of my own home!

Heffthelump · 31/12/2009 22:11

Completely agree with UpsyOne's post!

AboardtheAxiom · 31/12/2009 22:23

Yes upsyone sums it up

They are far too old to be behaving like that, sound like hyped up toddlers not 9 and 11! My DS is five and autistic and he knows to be respectful in other people's homes, regardless of their age/relation. How very rude.

Did SIL clean up after them? If I go to my mum's with DS I make him sit at table with drinks/food with his cousins, and clean up any mess he makes.
