I just love it, DD likes it, but i love it - am watching james may building a full size lego house - hhh, wow, how cool is that - although he is cheating it seems it has some sort of timber frame.

YABU - i have 2Dss who get Lego in various sizes and guises every B'day and Christmas. They never play with it - it sits "rotting" in the corner...then i give it away as raffle prizes etc.

I'm not sure why they don't like it - they play with lots of other creative stuff. As it's the default pressie for every boy under ten we end up with LOADS!!!

And i did do the house / garage / car a few yrs ago with DS1 which took farking a million hours and was basically a 3D jigsaw puzzle...

ijustwanttoaskaquestion · 30/12/2009 20:55

oh, pass it my way bedford - i just love it, i have put together all DDs stuff for her - we got her a stables for xmas, a dog kennel and a helecopter - lol, i have put it on her bedroom shelves and told her not to touch it!! i used to have loads of it as a child and would make enormous houses, cant believe we sold it for next to nothing at a boot fair, will definately be on the look out for it, because thats my only criticism, its sooo expensive!!!

My DD likes playmobil too - i didnt realise, they have it at school, her older sister bought her a set for xmas and she played with it more than anything, that and a board game i got from the charity shop for £1.25

lego definately rules in our house!! ds1 got loads of the star wars lego for xmas and he just loves it! he has even spent his xmas pennies on it too.

We watched James May's program too and all three dc's were like farts in a trance!

IlanaK · 30/12/2009 21:15

I love lego, but sadly ds1 and ds2 do not. I had to give up in the end and now own enough playmobil to fill a toy shop. There is no lego in my house.

Tizzyjacko · 30/12/2009 21:20

My DS3 who is 8 loves lego but not bothered by the Playmobil and we have loads. I am so sad. I loved making little worlds and forbidding DS1 and DS2 to touch "go away Mummy's playing". Got to find a home for it all as run out of space. (DS1 and " are 18 and 18). Would playgroups want it do you think?

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 30/12/2009 21:21

It is brilliant and I'm very cross with DH for taking over DS's Power Miners which he was given for Christmas. DS was pottering away on it nicely and DH has done most of it.

ijustwanttoaskaquestion · 30/12/2009 21:25

Tizzy, playgroups would snap your hand off, however i wonder if the little bits would go astray - maybe contact homestart or a similar organisation who would pass it on to families who otherwise coudlnt afford?, donate to toy library - or if all else fails send it to me then again, there is always ebay

I love this DS got it for Christmas but I want one too! I think it is great the way lego can be added too and I'm sure it will be popular in our house for years. Doesn't have to be expensive either, I collected two sets of star wars lego from the Daily Record and got some moon bases off free cycle and he loves it

Tizzyjacko · 30/12/2009 21:30

Homestart is a great idea, I used to be on the committee of our local one, so why didn't I think of that? I thought the bits might be a bit small for playgroup, nightmare at tidying up time.

pigletmania · 30/12/2009 21:44

YANBU a timeless classic.

ijustwanttoaskaquestion · 30/12/2009 21:50

it means "play well" in dutch, apparently

Ds has decided i need to buy some for me so that i can have some fun. I never played with girly type toys when i was a kid. it was always lego. Still have in the loft, but have also acquired my sisters sets due to an error on my mums part. so a very happy bunny. just need the space to have it out and the time to play. I have soo much i want to do there simply isnt enough hours in the day.

But my absolute favourite bit about lego - the brick shop so that those annoying little bits that are essential so you make the kit but always go missing bits can be replaced fairly cheaply. Also the fact that you can get duplicate instructions on the internet. Fantastic. Must have been a mum who came up with that little jem.

ijustwanttoaskaquestion · 30/12/2009 22:20

also, dideinsteinsmum, if you look on their website you can design your own contruction online and they will produce it for you, complete with instructions and your own design for the box - its like lego porn i tell ya!

love it! DS's birthday is the week before Christmas - my parents posted him a small set, which he had 3/4 made before school on his birthday, and gave him a bigger set when we got to their house on Christmas Eve morning. Kept him happy the rest of the day, and he soent ages putting togther the rest of the sets in the series that he got the following day.

JACKIEwrappingPAPER · 30/12/2009 22:49

ds had had lots of lego this christmas and yes it is farkin brilliant. he is only 5 but quite happy to sit for ages following the instructions and building it and then taking it all apar and building it his own way. it's a brilliant toy

Morloth · 30/12/2009 23:00

Another Lego household here, the shit is very sharp for stepping on though.

DS loved all those James May shows, but then he likes to watch Top Gear as well, hell so do I!

ijustwanttoaskaquestion · 30/12/2009 23:38

i have a bit of a weird crush on James May - he would be quite good company wouldnt he? Wouldn't he?

The house only had a timber frame because health and safety insisted, apparently.

ChippingIn · 31/12/2009 02:58

I love lego too

I was in Bluewater shopping centre, in the lego shop and got talking with a couple (in their 30's - could be one of you here?!) who buy lots of it to do themselves, fairplay, I think...until they then admitted when they have finished it - they GLUE it together this is Lego ABUSE!!

I would buy more of the big sets for myself - but it's so bloody expensive!! I just LOVE following the instructions and finding all the little bits - LOL

Is there a Lego Library????? Hmmmmmm.... scratches head & wonders if this is the online business that Chippy could make her fortune with....

jabberwocky · 31/12/2009 03:08

The boys love to watch the stop action lego movies on youtube. They do their own in the basement and it is really fun to watch - for us anyway!

PortiaPie · 31/12/2009 07:38

My 8 year old had a lego phase which has cost me the best part of $600 (sorry, Aussie keyboard, so no pound sign) buying various sets. I think he overdosed on lego and now it sits in three huge plastic containers all mixed up. I've kept the building instructions for each set, and so I'm hoping my 4 year old will get into it more when he's a bit older. Failing that I'll either sell the lot or put it in the attic for any possible future grandchildren.

Agree, it's fantastic stuff and never dates.

moonmother · 31/12/2009 07:44

DS (6)has had a lot of the classic star wars lego for his birthday and Xmas this year.

For his birthday ( middle of Dec) we put built the Star Wars Xwing and Darth Vaders Tie Fighter together the night before, so he could play with them before he went to school.

For Xmas as his main present we got a him an AtAT walker- that really walks , it took us 5 hours Xmas Day to put together but it's his pride and joy.

Lego is amazing- he has a huge plastic tub full- there is lego I had when I was little and loads that my DB had when he was small.

We also keep the instructions, but have found a great website that list instructions from years ago on, so can rebuild old vintage lego sets too.
