to expect that others will EXPECT the queues at sale time.

I mean WHY do people get so annoyed with having to wait to pay for their items?

I was in Next yesterday, it was a long queue and 2 people were serving. A couple of people behind me demanded that they put an extra assistant on the tills.

It's the same every year, this is the busiest shopping week. Shops aren't going to employ extra staff for just one week. They're probably having to cope with 5 people phoning in sick (hangover/flu/exhaustion) - a little understanding wouldn't go amiss.

If you don't enjoy queueing, why not wait until the sales are over?

Getting angry over the amount of time it takes to queue really doesn't make your shopping expedition enjoyable. There are better things to get het up about.

Anyway I'm sure I'm preaching to the converted. We're all civilised shoppers here.

he he - reminds me of why I don't go shopping at the week-end either.

It's full of the blue rinse brigade complaining about the queues

Having a tiny little moan to your fellow queue members is one thing, being angry and rude towards staff is something else

southeastastra · 30/12/2009 16:32

i think what has peed me off more than the queues is the amount of clothes just flung on the floor getting trodden on - maybe it's the primark effect

ChilloHippi · 30/12/2009 16:33

I always make an effort to be nice to shop staff. They get a lot of shite from people and they're certainly not paid enough to put up with it.

satc2bringiton · 30/12/2009 16:36

I avoid the sales but WHY were there only 2 people serving - that would piss me off tbh

MaHumbug · 30/12/2009 16:42

Why only 2 people serving?

The store is on 3 floors and it was late afternoon and someone had just gone to help another customer.

It takes just a little empathy from everybody to make the day a little brighter.

My friend who works for Monsoon has just posted this on Facebook - " Loves the sales when people want everything for nothing and think the staff like to be verbally abused, nice."

Shops like Next should be a bit more geared up for it though.

Glad I missed the sales though - could not be doing with it!

holidaywonk · 30/12/2009 16:47

I always forget that this time of year is busy at the shops - possible because I don't 'do' sales shopping myself (never any nice stuff left IME).

I went down to the local Tesco/M&S emporium today and they were queuing to get in to the car park. I only wanted a pair of tights.

I wasn't rude to anyone though.
