To wonder why MIL felt the need to buy THREE baby dolls for Christmas?

It's obviously very nice of her to but DD presents for Christmas and I am grateful, but what 2.2 yo needs three soft-bodied baby dolls? She was supposed to be getting an all-singing, all pee-ing Baby Born one, but decided that was too big for her toy pushchair - so bought three alternatives

AIBU to think this is just a little ott? She always goes over board at Christmas and gives so much tat so many lovely presents to DD, but I just find this odd.

Keep one and give the others to charity.

Honestly - she loves your DD - just be happy about that.

yabu

my 3 yr old has about 5 dolls various people have given her

she loves playing families

putting them all to bed in a row

giving them dinner etc etc

don't write them off just yet, your dd will be playing with them umtl she's at least 8

HuwEdwards · 29/12/2009 19:56

no, tis completely normal of grannies. They over-indulge their gcs.

manchestermummy · 29/12/2009 20:00

Oh she does love them all, that's true (and got another two from other places so now has a nursery...)

I just thought it a little odd that one person would buy three of the things for the same occaision, that's all!

Do they look quite different? My mum bought DS 4 small baby dolls and they are white, asian, black and... can't remember the last one... (we don't have them all out at the same time) they all look cute though and nice not to just have the scarily anaemic looking fisher price offering!

diddl · 29/12/2009 20:03

Well, it is a little odd, but if they will all get used, no harm done.

As for Baby Born-just foul!

manchestermummy · 29/12/2009 20:07

They are pretty much identical. One is a small Baby Born, the other two are rip-off versions. All the same size, all wearing pastel-pink sleepsuits and all bald.

You had a lucky escape, we bought DD a boy baby born at her request. It pees out of its neck unless you ram the bottle so hard down its throat that your hand goes white. It is supposed to poo, but really it passes what can only be called mucus and that is only if you can get the bloody "food" in its mouth. You have to flush it out regularly. Truthfully, the soft bodied doll my DD already had is so much better.

My DD is 6 and have 9 bald baby dolls. Mostly bought as presents (from my mum, my gran, and DH's mum) I only bought her the first one on her first birthday) and 2 she took from my parents house from when I was small. Anyway she loves them all, she has named them all, they are her babies she takes them all to bed, pretends they are her pupils, pretends she is their nanny etc etc, plays with them all every day - since she was 1.

So don't worry about it being tat she'll enjoy having a doll family.

re: baby born - i threw away the food when she got the doll so she doesn't even know about the poos - although she does feed it water - (no probs with leaking) i buy cheapo tesco premmie nappies cheaper than dolly nappies and she likes it that she can bath her and take her swimming - the others are all soft bodied so can't get wet.
