to be stressed out with head lice?

me and dd2 (age 2 yrs 11 months ) have them. she picked them up at daycare.

We use the nitty gritty daily, wetcombing over and over again. everyday we find between 1 and 20 lice and dozens of eggs in eahc of our heads.

I tried the full marks headlice solution and regret it, what a waste of money! clear heads for about an hour before we both started itching again and I found live lice in both our hairs. Repeated dose a week later to no avail.

Last night I tried some advice I read on the internet about using oil so i drowned both our hairs in coconut oil last night, wrapped in plastic and washed on waking, only to find more lice crawling through our heads (have just washed and combed again with nit comb and found small newly hatched lice and one big one in each head).

am using the nitty gritty but alternate with another good metal comb as find the nitty gritty is a bit long to stay close to the scalp. Have washed bedding and clothing religiously and even got new duvets, vacuumed mattresses etc.

have heard of delacet but don't know where to buy it from. and worried about investing hopes into yet another solution that won't work.

am really stressed actually got into tears about it today- i know that's really silly of me but my scalp is bleeding and sore from all the combing. any advice?

Ok - perhaps it was the oil then - I always have used olive oil and it works really well. Then hot straightners to kill the eggs, when the hair was dry.

Misdee, that is drastic! get the Nitmix honey.

Hedrin is the most effective solution (see the video on TheHairforce.co.uk - no solutions are a complete cure). What most people miss is that you MUST retreat after 7 days or you are wasting your time.

Hedrin is available on prescription.

Some oils are supposed to prevent nits - can anyone help on this with mixed race hair?

Send off for a bug busting kit - this really sorted us out

Hi Mums and Dads,

I have been making and designing head lice combs for over 20 years.
I sold product to amongst others Boots the Chemists and sold over 1 million combs per year across the world from our site in Bradford.
There are some poor practices going on in head lice circles, there are too many people out to make a fortune rather than solve the problem.
So here is my view:

  1. Do not bother with any of the expensive lotions.
  2. Buy a large bottle of budget conditioner.
  3. Buy a good quality comb; which is one with metal teeth (pins), that are all the same length with straight pins that do NOT have a point, by which I mean the pins should not have a taper at the point. There are a great deal of Chinese combs on the market that do not work. The plastic combs are rubbish, a waste of money, I used to make them for 2.5 pence each in the UK.
  4. Rub the conditioner right through the hair, the idea is to slow the live lice down, even if you only hit them with the comb, thats sufficient to break their legs and stop them mating.
  5. Do not try and comb out the eggs just comb right through every other day combing out the live lice. Even some of the experts have trouble knowing if the egg attached to the hair is an egg or an empty shell.
  6. I am on ther verge of producing a new comb, designed to do the job properly, so watch this space. Any one who wants to help with this please get in touch.

Regards
David Shaw
