i just cannot sleep with him anymore! he drives me insane with lack of sleep.

im actually browsing houses on the net now and looking longingly at that all important extra bedroom...last night it was gone 3am when i got to sleep. he snores. loudly.

so would it be really daft to suggest that we start to look on the basis that if i have to share a bedroom with him for any length of time im gonna end up committing a murder....

i NEED sleep.

im due to start a full time job sometime during 2010, earning a proper full time job wage! we have some equity in our house (though probably not much) but our house isnt really finished to sell....would need work on the garden etc tbh, but am tempted to get a valuation anyway.

would you do it? or put up and shut up? (and sleep on the couch)

Oh you have my sympathy! I have just discovered these www.britishsnoring.co.uk/shop/snore_calm_foam_ear_plugs_special_offer_30_pairs.php?PHPSESSID=da15323 2ee62d8ab5674908446ef93a1 they are wondeful!!! You scrunch them up and they expand in your ears, blocking out all the noise. I haven't slept so well in ages!

VicarInaTinselTuTu · 28/12/2009 12:03

i worry a bit about blocking out all noise....im quite a light sleeper, its always me that hears the kids or whatever in the night. but id try them in desperation i guess. im up for work in the morning,so could do with some sleep tonight

I used to wear earplugs but kept getting ear infections and cannot bear them now. Ear infections are HORRID (and yes, I was wearing new ones every time, dunno how I managed to get infections).

ADingDongDandyChristmasLioness · 28/12/2009 12:36

Agree ear infections are horrid - I had a terrible one once after flying. My ear was so infected it was seeping (sorry, tmi) and my balance when. I had this awful screeching pain in my ear for days. I still shudder at the memory. I've had (early stage) cancer and other illnesses, but that ear infection remains one of the worst memories I have of being unwell.

jasper · 28/12/2009 12:52

get the earplugs.
My dh snores.
earplugs have saved my sanity

edam · 28/12/2009 12:54

oh and dh's snoring is so bad I can hear him even with earplugs.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/12/2009 12:58

dh snores - he isnt fat, though def worse after a few drinks

he even fell asleep on christmas day at my brothers so least my parents and bruv heard the racket he made - and all told him he snores though he denys it

i have taped him and made him listen -he sayd my phone makes things louder sent to kc and bella - they know how loud he is

i do find a hearty prod/kick or shouting roll over works - he def snores less on his left side, but awful on back and right side

mvemjsunp · 28/12/2009 13:03

You could move house, vicarina, but you would still know that he was snoring.

CMOTdibbler · 28/12/2009 14:50

He really ought to go to GP and get a sleep clinic referral - my DH snored terribly. As in, we had people thumping on the wall when staying in a hotel bad.

Turned out, he has OSA, and very severely too - it would have significantly shortened his life. His CPAP machine is very very quiet (all the new ones are), and he never snores now. And, of course, best of all, he is much less likely now to have a stroke or a heart attack.

He has always had OSA, even when underweight, but OSA needs to be diagnosed and treated, rather than telling the overweight to lose weight as a first line. Surgery is very rarely succesfull

VicarInaTinselTuTu · 28/12/2009 15:00

whats OSA?

OP posts:
CMOTdibbler · 28/12/2009 15:15

Obstructive Sleep Apnoea - you stop breathing because some part of your airway collapses or blocks - in DHs case it is his trachea being too floppy, but some people have soft palate or nose issues. Ususally people with OSA snore in a fairly characteristic way of snore, snore SNOOOORRRRREEEE etc. DH stops breathing 87 times an hour left to his own devices

VicarInaTinselTuTu · 28/12/2009 20:07

oooo, thats a bit scarey. i wonder if he would let me make him a gp appt to rule anything like that out...

Has he tried singing?

May sound daft but my GP is a specialist, and she says that 98% of her patients are cured by regular singing and losing one stone in weight (may not apply to your dp).

Basically, the muscles in the neck, throat and mouth (like all muscles) become flabby, and this can be a big cause of snoring. I can recommend a book, if you'd like - it has the singing exercises in it.

VicarInaTinselTuTu · 28/12/2009 23:52

oh lord....

im not sure you can sing along to The Fall....if my DH tried to sing i might actually require those ear plugs!

im sure he could take the loss of a stone these days. he used to weigh 11 stone when we met, i think ill mention this to him and see what he says. we could both do with a stone off and im up for a knees up round the old joanna! lol

My dh saw gp and nhs sleep clinic built a personalspecilist mouth peice which seems to work- unless takes out when has cold - good luck.

Husband now has a mouth guard thing which brings the lower jaw forward slightly and our lives have been transformed. He bought one for about £70 over the internet and since we now know it works he's invested in a tailor-made one from the dentist. About £500 worth every penny though.
