oh I wanted to do that with ours for the DCs but apparently taking it out of the packaging is part of the fun

I usually take out the wires but didnt this year. I reckon it took over two hours to wade through it all. I had bought lots of Imaginext and each man seemed to have three wires, one on each leg and one round the middle grrrr

I piled all the boxing into DB's room and DS has now put all the boxes into the recycling bin... he is well trained

muggglewump · 27/12/2009 16:06

YANBU.

We didn't have too much packaging this year as DD is 8 so a bit past the toys with wire stage but I remember from previous years.
I particularly hated the stuff attached with screws. What is that all about?

I always unpacked before wrapping so it was ready to play with.

andirobobo · 27/12/2009 16:20

We to ohad the same problems - wire ties, screws and loads of sellotape.

Taken all the cardboard to the tip today - that made the present pile seem smaller!

golgi · 27/12/2009 16:32

Playmobil isn't too bad for the packaging - cardboard box with some plastic bags in. It's putting all the bits together that takes forever (particularly after a couple of gins).

I think it's to stop people taking stuff out of the boxes while it's still in the shop - either to steal it or to play with it.

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 27/12/2009 16:35

golgi is right - it's to stop people taking it out in the shop .

I don't unwrap anything, even DS2's MP3 player was still in packaging when he unwrapped it - they just know they have to wait for charging/unwrapping before they can use it

HappyMummyOfOne · 27/12/2009 17:29

We had the wire cutters handy although DS didnt have many toys that had the wires this year, the packaging and all the xmas paper is in a big box ready for recycling day.

Bonsoir · 27/12/2009 17:42

Don't buy Chinese industrially-made toys

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 27/12/2009 18:31

well that's a lovely idea Bonsoir, unfortunately if I didn't buy industrially made toys then my children would get sod all for Christmas

StealthPolarBear · 27/12/2009 18:53

Not to mention all the toys they get from toher people!
We actually managed to keep the toys to a minimum this year from us and the grandparents as we already have toys coming out of our ears. Aunts / uncles / cousins howver, all bought toys, so I was glad we hadn't bought much of that stuff ourselves.
I'm glad DS is still at the age where Bob The Builder pyjamas and bath bubbles can entertain him!
