The Happiest Baby on the Block by Dr. Harvey Karp. Here is the Youtube link. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=the+happiest+baby+on+the+block+video&search_type=&aq=1&o q=the+happiest+baby

In brief, swaddling, sucking, shushing, swinging - all silmuntaneously - it works. Did it on each of my 3 dc.

AllThreeWays · 26/12/2009 05:18

My BF baby got colic, no solutions for you but you are not alone

welshdeb · 26/12/2009 05:35

Mine too. I found it helped if I cut down on milk and dairy spicy foods etc.
I tried it all too infacol etc etc etc, they do grow out of it

l39 · 26/12/2009 07:59

My oldest niece got colic and I still remember the hours and hours of walking in a circle with her that her mum, grandma, other aunt, and I did. She could exhaust all four of us, and she was totally breast fed!

I hope you find something that works soon! In all honesty, coping with my twins (who didn't get colic) was a breeze compared with taking less than a quarter-share of caring for just one baby who did. I'm not surprised you're exhausted.

Longtinsellyjosie · 26/12/2009 08:04

YANBU - mine certain;y did.

There's a book I had recommended (Baby On Board) which suggested colic was linked to overstimulation and suggested you could bore your baby to sleep by just sitting with him/her in a darkened room. Not leaving them, I hasten to add. We were past that stage by then, but worth a go?

gobsmackedetal · 26/12/2009 08:34

yep, they're lying

MrsGokWantssomeChristmasSpirit · 26/12/2009 08:56

My DS1 had terrible colic. In the end DH used to take him out in the car ad drive round until he fell asleep. Then bring him in in the car seat and put him beside the bed. That used to get us a few hours respite.

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/12/2009 08:59

Cut all dairy out of your diet.

Was magical cure for both of mine, as they were both milk protein intolerant (quite common in babies).

misdee · 26/12/2009 09:15

they are lying.

dd4 suffered terrible colic. she also has a milk protein allergy. ut all dairy out and the pain subsided. however she is still windy at a year old. a sling works wonders. wrapping her on my back equals instant calm. she relaxes, and falls asleep.

blueshoes · 26/12/2009 09:22

Erika, there is sometimes nothing you can do for colic. Can you draft in help - someone to hold your baby while you get a little time to yourself.

They grow out of the it, hth. Hang in there.

TheArmadillo · 26/12/2009 09:30

I used to drink fennel tea and cut out all caffine (even chocolate!) - it didn't stop it but it did help noticeably.

It is all bollocks and lovely to be told it when your child is constantly screaming.

duende · 26/12/2009 09:32

My DS was breastfed and had colic. I really, really feel for you. It's hell! But it does pass.
hairdryer or other white noise sometimes helped here. The Harve Karp's method is good.
Hope it passes quickly for you.
How old is your LO?

Ineedsomesleep · 26/12/2009 09:35

My DS got colic so I know how you feel. Infacol was useless, Dentinox was better for us. It finally stopped when I cut out caffiene, this doesn't work for everyone though.

brimfull · 26/12/2009 09:37

my dd had colic and was bf
it was a nightmare you have my sympathies

I did the swaddling , shushing thing with ds (didn't know about it with dd) and it worked well

BetsyBoop · 26/12/2009 09:38

YANBU

DD didn't get it, DS did, both exclusively BF

DS was only ever happy when he was cuddled up in a sling (wrap around kind) for the first 3 months) Best thing I ever bought

I know it seems like forever when you are in the middle of it, and days and nights are all a blur, but it generally only lasts about 12weeks, hang in there {hugs}

Kodit · 26/12/2009 09:43

I can definitely agree with Josie. My wife and I have found that overstimulation definitely has a factor in colic. We discovered the other day that once she takes him to a darkened room for a feed he completely relaxes. It is definitely worth trying. I hope this helps!

Highlander · 26/12/2009 09:46

DS1 had colic. There is no medical evidence that wind causes colic.

Get 'The Happiest Baby On The Block', by Harvey Karp. it works

McSnail · 26/12/2009 09:47

Hi - even when my four month old was EBF, she still had rotten colic. The one thing that ALWAYS made her fart though, was one of those tummy tubs - you know, the baths that look like a big plastic bucket. When the colic was really bad, I would pop her in it and hey presto! Farts a go-go.

It won't seem that comforting right now, but the colic does go after a few months (although my baby still gets trapped wind, but not nearly as badly)

Good luck. Positive vibes.

Colic is horrific - and BF DC3 had it. You have all my sympathy - just keep on reminding yourself that it passes.
