ds, aged ten is doing a pretty good job of 'believing' in fc this year, dh thinks he's too old to still believe as he'll be going to high school next sept, he's 11 in july....

We haven't directly said anything but dh has phrased questions etc that hint.... I know my dsd, 14 doesn't believe but we still gave her fc presents last year and dd, 4 weeks is too young to care...

Question is, do I continue the pretence this year with a stocking and sack for ds and dsd or do I label it all up from me and dh - this year they have lots of little pressies rather than a big one...

Advice? When did you guys tell/admit re fc?

I think it must be a pretty dim child over about 7 who really believes in FC

cornishgal · 24/12/2009 12:30

Oh no - keep going, it's all part of the fun. I had stockings from my folks even when I'd left home and was only back for Christmas. We still do them now and our oldest is 24 - or is it 23?! Just little bits and bobs, it's a jolly start to the day and keeps everyone happy until we're ready for the big uns from under the tree

CardyMow · 24/12/2009 13:10

Madamearcati - I think that's a particularly mean thing to say, my 11 yo DD GENUINELY believes, and still believes in the tooth fairy as well. Does that make her 'dim' just because she is SN, and she refused to believe the other children in the playground??

HugeBaublesWhatDidISayRoy · 24/12/2009 16:45

what a horrible thing to say madamearcati. Special needs or not there are loads of children over 7 who believe in FC.

InMyLittleHead · 24/12/2009 16:46

Yeah, just carry on! It's fun to get presents at the end of your bed on Xmas morning even if you don't believe FC left them. Wish I still got a stocking...

BouncingTurtle · 24/12/2009 16:58

madamearcati - My DSS, who will be 9 in March, still believes in Santa.
He is actually very smart.

I suggest you keep such ignorant and nasty remarks to yourself

madamearcati · 25/12/2009 21:28

It's called humouring you !

CardyMow · 26/12/2009 00:05

I KNOW my 11 yo dd isn't just 'humouring me'. I saw her face this morning....

madamearcati · 26/12/2009 10:48

i still stand by what I said.I think a child of 9,10,11 should have enough judgment to be able to distinguish between fact and fantasy by 9,10 or 11.
I mean to truly believe some immortal old guy makes his reindeer fly and can carry enough toys and get round every household in a single night (But leave out those in 3rd world countries or don't know/believe in him come into the house down the chimney ,even those who don't have chimneys is not a sign of huge intelligence IMO.

My mum is 60 next year and we all club together and hide a stocking in her hosue before christmas.
She still pretends it was FC< that is the deal, you want a stocking, you have to pretend!
