I have asked the children to write their thank you letters today, they are keen to do them and we have the time. We will post next week.

However, they havent had the gifts yet.

On one hand I think it shouldnt matter what they get as they still need to say thank you. On the other hand its a huge assumption and cant be personalised.

best way i have found to do thankyous are to have camera ready when opening presents then as they open from other people take a picture of kids holding present.........print out and get kids to write thankyou and their names on back! EASY PEASY and much more personal!

YANBU - but I would include a snap of the children playing with their presents. I think it is lovely for children to write (or 'help' write) their own thank you letters (as opposed to parents writing them), and if it makes your life easier, it is fine to write them before Christmas.

Last year, we even got one with a contribution from DH's 6 mo goddaughter (a sort of hand print gone wrong/splodge (sp?)), which was a really nice thought.

I love getting letters from children - generic or not.
