To change my car insurance to fully comp?

We have a '96 Mondeo. Was fully comp, but then thought that as it isn't worth much, we'd go 3rd party F&T.

However, the weather got me thinking. It might not be worth much, but we can't afford to replace it, and ice is so unpredictable. To upgrade until renewal (April) was £68. So I did it.

On one hand it is a lot of money, but on the other, if we couldn't replace it, it may as well be a Ferrari. AIBU?

I don't think so. My 1999 Clio is fully comp for the same reasons.

Have to say that the 3rd party policies I've seen haven't been hugely cheaper.

No, YANBU at all. It's not all that much cheaper for us to have 3rd party, about £5 a month I think on a 10 year old golf.

Nope.

Fully comp covers you for a lot of things that you don't realise until you have a crash. Like the cost of the car being recovered from the accident site etc.

A few quid a month more is worth the peace of mind to me, esp if you can't afford to replace any other way. Knowing that the insurance would pay out made a real difference to us when my DH wrote our car off earlier this year. T'wasn't his fault - there was spilled oil on the road - but he wouldn't have been covered Third Party.

i think i'll do the same as you, i'm only third party but i love my car
