In the last month the dish washer has broken down, so has the tumble dryer, the fridge/freezer is definatly on the way out and the icing on the cake was the clutch has gone on hte car today and quotes over the phone at the moment varying from £400-800.

I've been keeping an eye on Freecycle but table top dishwashers never come up and I haven't seen a condenser dryer i a few months and no on has answered my wanted ad's bawl

May I suggest you join the neighbouring group and see if you have more joy there?

Sorry you are having such a shitty time. Hopefully you will turn the corner in the new year.

lisad123wantsherquoteinDM · 22/12/2009 22:21

oh bugger what a pita. Have you got a furniture scheme nearby? they normally do cheap white goods. HTH

tethersjinglebellend · 22/12/2009 22:27

If it makes you feel any better, I don't have a dishwasher or a tumble dryer, my fridge freezer is old and knackered and I don't have a car.

I thought I was doing alright until now...

I hope it has made you feel better, because it's made me feel worse to be honest

mummyofexcitedprincesses · 22/12/2009 22:31

A dishwasher and tumble dryer are not necessities, have you tried counting your blessings?

saltyseadog · 22/12/2009 22:34

Ditch the tumble dryer - they hoover electricity = £££ and warming the planet.

Hope your luck improves soon

GypsyMoth · 22/12/2009 22:34

well i dont have those luxuries eithet....except i do have a car and they are charging how much??!!! you sure??

just because we dont have them ladies, doesnt make it easier for the op who has probably come to rely on them. and also has to dispose of them!!

tethersjinglebellend · 22/12/2009 22:37

I was trying to cheer the OP up. Now I've realised I'm a failure

MrsGokWantssomeChristmasSpirit · 22/12/2009 22:38

WMMC I am a member of all 5 groups within a 30 mile radius of me, including 2 which cover the big cities either side of us. Nothing has come up.

Lisa we don't have a furniture scheme, I wish we did.

Tethers, sorry to make you feel bad. I have 3 kids and I am partially disabled so the dishwasher and dryer makes my life a little easier, they were bought with Christmas and birthday money saved up.

Thanks for the thoughts ladies.

you do get used to having these things that help make life easier, and car bills are terrible right now, ours has just cost £600! sorry cant help with anything but have you tried local papers too?

wordsonascreen · 22/12/2009 22:40

Warbles tunelessly " count your blessings... count them one by one"

Nah fuck that

Whinge away OP

MrsGokWantssomeChristmasSpirit · 22/12/2009 22:43

Cheers Words

Just needed to get it off my chest.

I have one child potty training at the moment and loads of wet clothes and bedding and my middle child has just started wetting the bed again and as I have problems standing they just make life easier.

Also we live in an area with very poor bus service so a car is a must.

tethersjinglebellend · 22/12/2009 22:45

Oh, OP, you don't have to justify yourself- wasn't trying to make you feel bad; quite the opposite!

I was just feeling all proud of myself that I have things like bookshelves and coffee tables, then I realised that I am still living like a bit of a student

Apologies

GypsyMoth · 22/12/2009 22:46

heart foundation (larger stores) have good electrical appliances....got one nearby?

tethersjinglebellend · 22/12/2009 22:46

BTW, great name wordsonascreen

ScottishBoris · 22/12/2009 22:49

Mrs Gok, I totally feel for you. I would be bereft withouy my tumble drier (I know it's a MN cardinal sin) and my car. Whinge away, I would!!

MrsGokWantssomeChristmasSpirit · 22/12/2009 22:51

Tiffany, nope! not even in the 2 cities nearby and we wouldn't be able to get them home at the moment, as no car.

Thanks Tethers, it did help some and I agree Words has a great user name.

Just had a brainstorm and I am going to aply to the Credit Union for a loan and see if we can get them in the sales and if I get them through Topcashback we will get a few pennies as well

saltyseadog · 23/12/2009 10:02

Och don't feel bad MrsGok, I'm sorry if my anti-Tumble Dryer comments made you feel like that. If it's any consolation I commit more MN cardinal sins than I have time to list on here

Hope you get sorted soon.

MrsGokWantssomeChristmasSpirit · 23/12/2009 10:04

Cheers Salty.

Was just feeling the need to have a good whinge yesterday.

CardyMow · 23/12/2009 11:20

Err, if you live local to me (north essex) we also have somewhere called Emmaus that does furniture & white goods. Having said that, my tumble dryer died 2.5 yrs ago, and I'm still without one, it's a fr when you have an 11yo that still bed wets regularly. I find you can hang sheets over the doors to dry if that helps...And my biggest whinge is that my tiny titchy kitchen has no space for a dishwasher. .

MrsGokWantssomeChristmasSpirit · 23/12/2009 11:35

Oooh! didn't think of the doors. Thanks for that. Will get DH to wipe the tops.

I'm 3 hours away at the other side of the country but thanks anyway.

I'm the same with a tiny kitchen. That is why I went for a table top one. it sits on the foot of worksurface between the boiler cupboard and draining board and half sits on the draining board. It is only really good enough for doing the plates, bowls and cutlery and few other bits and pieces but it does help. The dryer sits at the end of the centre cupboards between the kitchen and dining area, I have to run a plug right around the units from one side of the kitchen to the other.

That's it Justabout, I feel the same.

To cap it all the presents I ordered over the internet last week haven't arrived yet and it looks as if my boys will have nothing from us. Blardy weather.

Yes, I know what you mean as well. First the car went, then the boiler, then, last night, the telly.

Obviously, the car and the boiler had to be fixed, but it was the telly that broke the camels back. I don't even watch that much of it, but why now, two days before Christmas!

Feel for you, I really do. Ebay, maybe, if you can bully a family member into collecting. Or maybe a catalogue place. Hideous interest rate, granted, but at least it's small repayments at a time.

MrsGokWantssomeChristmasSpirit · 23/12/2009 17:48

Thanks ladies.

I don't do Ebay after being faffed around to many times as a buyer and seller. Not worth the hassle.

If I get a Credit Union loan, the repayments will be what I can afford and the APR is only 12%. Hopefully I will be able to get things on a good deal in the sales and if I order them through Topcashback I should get some money back so shouldn't be to bad, just really could have done with out it, especially no car until after Christmas.
