AIBU to consider cancelling christmas?

I know I am, but right now I just can't be bothered with it all. I'm full up with flu, I have to go and fight the masses for food in Tesco's tomorrow as there's no delivery slots, and 2 of my DC also have flu. There's no buses for me to do the 1 1/2 mile journey to tesco's and I can't even book a taxi, which will mean pushing DS2 (6yo) in his buggy as he can't walk that far. at having to push him in the snow when my whole body already aches. Can I have either an extra week to prepare and get better, or can I just cancel it this year....

I would make my ds walk. Bribe him if necessary. And take the buggy anyway to load up with the groceries.

Alternatively, can you wait til Tuesday or Wednesday?

thatsnotmymonster · 20/12/2009 22:33

That is rubbish . Have you got no-one who could do it for you or give you a lift?

Or look after ds while you go? Surely you can't push him back in the buggy plus all your food?

Where do you live?

I feel for you cos my lot all have glandular fever but at least I'm not ill.

Do you have a dp/dh?

CardyMow · 20/12/2009 22:38

He can't walk that far, he has a muscle problem, it would actually physically hurt him to. I wish I could wait, but my normal shopping days are monday and Friday, I need milk, bread, loo rolls etc, and tesco's is my closest shop. I has noooo dinners, was meant to go today and just did pasta in pesto sauce as was all that was left . Just sick and tired of being sick and tired, and cross with non-melting snow that was pretty and fun on the first day, mildly irritating on the second, extremely annoying by the third, and will make me by tomorrow! He's not a small 6yo either, so with achy fluey muscles, I'm really dreading having to try to push him through snow!

Just me and the DC's right now. Nope, nearest family is over 30 miles away, always do shopping by bus there and taxi back. This snow is really pissing me off annoying me now, in Scotland they manage with much more snow, here all public transport seems to grind to a halt if there's more than 3 inches of the stuff....

BitOfFunderthemistletoe · 20/12/2009 22:40

Ask a neighbour to watch him and go on your own.

BitOfFunderthemistletoe · 20/12/2009 22:43

I would ask your family if they are only thirty miles away. It's not like this is an everyday situation. I would be horrified if someone in my family felt they had to struggle through the snow while ill to avoid owing me a favour, especially at Christmas.

I wish, in dispute with my 'lovely' neighbour as she thinks it's absolutely ok to party away on school nights until 3am, and she took offence to me complaining to the housing association after 5 yrs of asking her politely to give it a rest....FAT CHANCE of going on my own, really just pissed off stressed at the lack of transport, really is buggering things up for me. Suppose the question could be AIBU expecting there to be at least one bus an hour tomorrow when the service is normally every 10 mins, when I absolutely rely on the buses due to my epilepsy??

OP posts:
AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 20/12/2009 22:47

yes, where are you ?

I can shop for two

fanjolina · 20/12/2009 22:48

Ask a neighbour to get you the basics you need for this week.

As for cancelling Christmas, will you or your DC notice/care if you don't have the traditional Christmas dinner? If not, then don't drag yourself out to shop especially for it.

Focus on resting and getting better. Then rustle up something with what you have in the house (even if it is only cheese sandwiches) - make it a fun carpet picnic in front of movie or something. Will likely be more memorable.

Hope you feel better soon.

CardyMow · 20/12/2009 22:49

LOL at East Sussex, I wish, much better area than North Essex where I am. And thanks for the lovely offer . Taxi's are all booked, most drivers not turning up for work apparently....even my friend's other half (who is a taxi driver) has tomorrow booked off to help with my friend's Christmas shopping. And my mum's not able to drive ATM as she has a very bad scald on her foot (spilt hot coffee on it a week ago, she can't even put her shoes on, I'm meant to be getting her stuff too!! )

Unfortunately, my DC are 11yo, 7 yo and 6yo, so yes they would notice. .

VinegarTinselTits · 20/12/2009 22:53

if your friends dh is taking tomorrow off to help her do shopping, can you catch a life with them? or ask her if she can get you a few bits to tide you over till you feel a little better

if one of my friends had flu i would have no problem shopping for them, or offering a lift

IMoveTheStarsForChristmas · 20/12/2009 22:53

try another supermarket for delivery slots

why can't your 6yo walk for a mile?

I;m sure you can find a taxi for a daytime slot if you call round a bit.

IMoveTheStarsForChristmas · 20/12/2009 22:53

hope you get better soon x x

VinegarTinselTits · 20/12/2009 22:53

catch a lift, not life

CirrhosisByTheSea · 20/12/2009 22:55

Do the children have a dad on the scene? Can he not drop in the necessary food etc?

thatsnotmymonster · 20/12/2009 23:02

Just phone one of your dc's friends parents and ask them to pick you up some stuff or give you a lift.

Even if you don't know them very well. I would do this for someone no problem. I am in Scotland so can't help!

I'm wondering if we will make it to nursery in the morning for their Christmas party!

CardyMow · 20/12/2009 23:12

DS2's dad would help, but doesn't drive and lives on same bus route, but at the other end, so can't get here. Friend is doing town shopping not food shopping, she has 3 DC's, no room in car for me and my brood (I asked), and all the rest of my friends rely on our (usually very good) bus service. I actually chose where to live based on the buses, but failed to take into account shitty snowy weather, and the inability for some bus companies to understand that 5 inches of snow in Essex is in no way the same as 2 feet of snow in Scotland. Inmystars, he has hypermobility syndrome, and hypotonia along with chronic asthma, if I was to try to make him walk that distance he would 1) have to be carried after only walking for 10 mins due to pain, 2) would then be in pain for days after and 3)in this weather, he would more than likely have a bad asthma attack. Not after help really, just feeling like poo on a plate and wishing the snow would go away to make life back to 'normal' (for my family lol)

thatsnotmymonster...what part of Scotland? I spent a few years living on the Isle of Skye a lifetime (12 yrs) ago. Lived in Uig and went to school in Portree.

Where is North Essex?

I'm Herts/Essex borders if I can be any help but cant travel far as need to be around to collect DH's car from garage (that's IF it passes its MOT!)

CardyMow · 20/12/2009 23:19

Thanks for the offer but I'm near the border with Suffolk, so well out of your way.

What medicine is good for flu? I've been taking the lemsip max strength cold & flu tablets, but they aren't doing very much. Just heard DD11yo coughing from upstairs, she doesn't sound too great either!! BAH HUMBUG!!

OP posts:
CirrhosisByTheSea · 20/12/2009 23:24

Surely his dad can get around somehow though. HE could get a taxi couldn't he? What if his son was in hospital, would he not be able to get to him? I think it's bound to be because you feel so under the weather - everything feels impossible when you're so ill. But I'm sure if you only ask someone would help. I mean, if it's a case of his child not having christmas food or drink or extras, surely one taxi ride to bloomin' tesco isn't impossible for a dad?

CirrhosisByTheSea · 20/12/2009 23:26

Oh bin the lemsip it's no good at all. IMO you need a combination - you can take aspirin based and paracetamol based stuff together. This is so much better than just one type. I took this combination when I had a severe ear infection and it was very helpful.

You must check that you're not taking two of the same type together - dangerous to take too much paracetamol.
