Is it hypocritical? I wouldn't get married in a church but go in for other people's weddings and funerals etc.
The main reason I want to go is nostalgia as we went when younger, and also to keep the little ones busy at 4.30 on Christmas eve!

No, it's lovely. It's a good part of a culture you share in, even if you don't share in the religion. Besides, something about 'suffer little children to come unto me' comes to mind here, if anyone in the congregation seems to think you shouldn't be there (which I bet they won't!)

I take mine every year. We went a couple of Sundays ago and DS declared we should come every Sunday - he liked the buffet afterwards Seriously, though, why not?

YANBU - I'm an atheist and I took my 4 year old ds1 to a crib service this year. I plan to start taking him to a few more churchy type things over the course of the year. I want him to decide himself what he believes (disbelieves) and feel that if he is never exposed to religion then it isn't really a choice.

As others have said, you should certainly go and you'll be made very welcome!

However I do think you should show your appreciation by making a decent (ideally Gift Aided) donation during/after the service - either to charity if there's a charity collection or to the church itself. Churches cost a huge amount to maintain and run, and although everyone is very welcome, it's only fair to give something back in return for that lovely Christmassy atmosphere...

I think you should definitely go if you want to. I know many people of varying or no beliefs who do so.

I would take my children to similar events of other faiths as well if I knew what they were/when they were/that we would be welcome.

As an atheist, I wouldn't bother. But I would go carolling for charity or something in that vein.
