To be upset at myself...

For not buying the sledges I saw in my local department store on tuesday?? I looked at them longingly for the DC's, and decided against them, as in all the 11 years I have had DC's, there has never been more than 1/4 of an inch of snow where I live. Tonight I am looking out of the window at over a foot's worth of snow, 3 DC's that don't even know the joys of sledging down a hill (there's a good one just 5 mins walk up the road), and no bloody sledges! I'm now sitting here kicking myself!, So AIBU to be upset with myself for not buying sledges that I thought we would never be able to use??

Soo many things, why not (if the kids are old enough) ask them to suggest items to use as sledges?

BlackLetterDay · 18/12/2009 01:59

I am 28 and have yet to use a sledge (and yes I blame my evil pathetic parents for not providing me with this essential life experience (or not ).

Really, don't worry.

That's a good idea, but I don't think they've ever seen a sledge, or know what it's used for . We really have only had 'dustings' of snow here in the last 12 years! My DC's are 11yoDD, 7yoDS and 6yoDS. Not like back in my day when every child had a sledge > (I'm only 28, but can remember when it used to snow like this every year). Think I'll just grab an assortment of things and push them down the hill . We have had sooo much snow tonight that the tree in the car park has actually snapped under the weight of it and is resting through my neighbour's windscreen! . They honestly have never had snow like this in their lifetime. We'll be able to build a snowman that's bigger than the current record of 14 inches (sorry I only work in imperial lol) tall. We could actually manage one as big as me!! Now where are my carrots, and where the heck can I get lumps of coal for the eyes from these days??!! (Looking forward to the morning now, despite generally hating cold and snow, just to see their faces and build snowmen with them and go sledging!!)

Don't want to see my neighbour's face when he comes out to go to work though! They were alseep when I tried to tell them about the car, got no answer!!!

My dad built me a sledge when I was small.

He spent ages sanding it down then painting it a jaunty red.

I have my doubts that my DH will be able to do the same for our future DCs.

nowbringussomeJammypudding · 18/12/2009 04:28

Dad built a sledge for my DSis and DBrother (they are quite a bit older than me, so it was built for them but I got to use it in due course) when they were little. He built it so large and strong that it was too heavy for them to pull up the hill!

Re lack of coal for snowmen - use sprouts!
