i bought a few stamps, was with ds1 (11), she actually followed me to the front of the shop to say 'i hope you dont mind me saying but your top (i thought she was going to say she liked it) is very low cut and rather too revealing. i just wondered if you actually knew'

my face was like this and . i blustered something trying to make a joke of it but she made me feel a right wally and i'm pretty sure ds was embarassed as were the customers behind me!

wtf anyway?!! it wasnt like it was all hanging out for all to see. yes it was quite low cut and actually yes i did bloody know, i like it like that!!! am annoyed more about it now than i was when it happened as i was so embarassed.
dh thinks i should complain but not sure what to say or even if its worth it. did think it was unnecessary and rude tho. i wondered if she also comments on the slag tags and g strings on display in the shop usually. maybe i looked too classy to be intentionally displaying my cleavage lol!

potplant there's a high number of people in my area that go to the shops in their pj's as well

Bel i would of answered back with "yeh well i have to have them on show in my job" then winked and walked off leaving her looking like this

Kaloki · 17/12/2009 18:09

Nahm the correct response is "I know, but my boobs are just too great to hide!"

Asana · 17/12/2009 18:12

Well, if it makes you feel better, I had some South Asian-origin man literally spit the word "skinhead"* at me two days ago whilst out shopping with my son. On the same day, I also had two women at the bus stop debating quite openly between themselves whether I was sick or had actually chosen to shave my head (along the lines of, if the latter, "how could she do such a horrible thing?!?!"). I was really upset on both occasions but said nothing - I think out of shock more than being a retiring flower. I'd never thought that having no hair would elicit such rude reactions from people.

So, if I were given the chance to be in your situation, I would have said to her that I could always change my top, but I would rather wear a low-cut top than have terrible manners.

*Disclaimer - I'm a black female in my 20s. My knowledge of punk/ska is woefully lacking, I certainly harbour no ill-will towards other races, and anyone would be hard-pressed to claim that I have far-right Nazi-like views or far-left Socialist views. However, I am now thinking about buying myself some Dr Martens boots ....

Sorry, but I did laugh at the thought of a young black female being accused of being a nazi. He did not think that one through. Fwiw, I think that women with shaved heads can look stunning, you just have to have the confidence and style to carry it off, as I am sure you have.

OOH just caught up with this.

Riven, should I change my name to To(d)gerdrivesagain? Puts a whole new look on things

I think that you should ask her to write a fashion column for the local newspaper and send it in.

I'm sure they would appreciate it.

Playing Devils Advocate

OP, is there a possiblity that this woman thought you were revealing more than you intended to and hoped to be saving you a few more blushes than she caused?

However, she could have been a little more tactful if this was the case.

Only thinking that I have had a quiet word with a total stranger once or twice when I wanted to avert a potentially embarrassing experience for them. Although I was much more tactful, totally discreet and they did appreciate it. As would I.

But if it was just an opinion on your choice of dress. How rude!
