She had grommets put in last week and when we visited for her outpatient appt the doctor sized her and gave me the order form for some silicone jobs so she can swim in the new year. They arrived yesterday (along with an invoice for 78 francs ) and a set of neoprene bands to keep them in place. I wrapped them and put them under the tree. My dh said it was cruel, but, they cost so much money I thought it was a good idea. So, AIBU?

yes!!!!!! thats a shite present!!!!

claw3 · 17/12/2009 09:00

Yes a terrible present. Would you wrap up a pair of crutches if she had broken her leg!?

claw3 · 17/12/2009 09:03

grabs the wrapping paper for ds's new asthma pump!

Of course not claw, she'd be using them. This isn't the only present she's getting obviously. We've got her special glass eye cleaner too. Amongst the rest of her gifts from us, rather than the big man are 9 books, some earrings, a box of after eight chocs, a ouple of CDs, a couple of DVDs, some hair ornamentation. I was thinking of somehow wrapping her appointment with the orthadontist too. That would be pretty shitty.

I suppose what i am trying to say, is just because something cost money, it doesnt make it a Christmas gift.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 17/12/2009 09:59

I know that, but she really has no concept of the value of things. I suppose I can keep them for her birthday

On a serious note, 78 francs?? That's a lot of money. I buy DS' silicone earplugs (he has grommets too) from Boots ... can you get someone in the UK to send some over for you? Here they are - www.boots.com/en/BioEars-Soft-Silicone-Earplugs-3-pairs_39424/

Oh, and a tight-fitting swimming hat will hold the ear plugs in much better than a headband, and will not allow any water in at all - have learned this from experience!

Thanks mummy for the link, we are coming to England in early January so may order some for delivery then and look for a tight fitting swimming hat. I've got the pink things now and they are wrapped up, so I dont' want to fanny around sending them back.

Ha ha Kree! No,push the boat out a pair of school shoes for a real birthday treat.

FrankieCH · 19/12/2009 17:01

There's a UK company we've been getting our son's silicone earplugs from (he has grommets too) for ages. They sent us some to France one summer when we ran out. The link is www.snorestore.co.uk and they're under children's earplugs. It's the orange ones we use. I see now that they do headbands as well, but we've never used them as my son doesn't like swimming and we only use the earplugs in the bath and shower.

StealthPolarBear · 19/12/2009 17:04

that's the kind of thing my mum would do / would have done. Point being that she buys everything I ever needed and most that I wanted so wrapping them up is just one more present to unwrap iyswim.
So I think it's nice

FabIsGettingReadyForXmas · 19/12/2009 17:06

I am with Stealth. I have wrapped up all sorts for DH. Not for the dc's though. The only things I would wrap that aren't toys, books, dvds are clothes.

StealthPolarBear · 19/12/2009 17:08

yes, it's the same kind of present as boring socks IMO - you'd never see her sockless but it's something extra to wrap and unwrap

belgo · 19/12/2009 17:12

Why does she need ear plugs for swimming? My dd1 has had grommets tice over the last two years, we go swimming very regularly but we've been told she doesn't need ear plugs.

belgo · 19/12/2009 17:13

She doesn't have ear plugs for the bath either - we are a bit careful washing her hair - and we haven't had any problems.

belgo · 19/12/2009 17:15

As for wrapping them up - children have such fun unwrapping things, I don't see why not! YANBU!
