DD2 and I were out Xmas shopping this morning in Glasgow city centre. We were outdoors and she was in the buggy wearing a snow suit, a hat and a foot muff. An older lady/busybody came up to me and said
"that's a sin that poor wean's got so much on. Did you not know they don't feel the cold until they're 2?" How bizarre!
FWIW DD2 was fine - not too cold or too hot and when I got back to the car the display thingy said the temperature was 1 degree.

I hope she didn't ahve children of her own

My mum once asked when DS would start nursery. I pointed out that he'd been going for months.
"I mean proper nursery"

I live in Thailand and its a rare day (or night) that it drops below 30 degrees.

I have however been told on at least 10 occasions that DS is far too cold in just his cotton romper. Usually they run up, grab his foot and say "lady, you're baby is cold!" in an incredulous tone. I gently reassure them that no, in fact, my baby is plenty warm, too warm.

People love telling you what to do with your nippers, smile and walk on and carry on as before I say.

My dd was born in July. In Greece. The height of summer. When she was a week old, there was a heatwave, temperatures reached around 44 degrees. And guess what, someone told me I should put a blanket over her in her pram so she wouldn't get cold...

"The trouble with many older women is that they're dealing with so much repressed sexuality. It makes them act absolutely insane."
Um, pot...kettle?

OP - YABU though you aren't preparing your DD for the teenage years of clubbing on a January night in micro dress.

am nearly 50, so am looking forward to being able to perpress my sexuality and be outrageously intrusive and provocative....starting countdown now!

pollywobblebauble · 13/12/2009 14:44

or even repress....also when i am 60, i plan not to give a damn whether anyone can read what i write...

Strictly, the old ladies of Glasgow, who are notorious for their inability to keep their opinions to themselves, bless them, normally use their weirdy speaking-to-you-but-not-speaking-to-you voice to tell me that ds doesn't have enough clothes on.

You obviously got a rogue one there today .

shonaspurtle · 13/12/2009 14:48

lol at "that's a sin". Was it my gran? Probably .

pispirispisloveschristmas · 13/12/2009 20:17

Lol at this thread, especially at AmericanHat - harshtastic!

You should try having a baby in Spain - everyone feels it's their business to tell you your baby is too cold, even youngish men.

pranma · 13/12/2009 21:33

'repressed sexuality' is it???I'm 65 and not a bit repressed thanks but I do think the Glasgow granny was bonkers.
