to think friend's DD could wait a week to get her dvd back

My friend expects me to drive an hour's round trip to her house tomorrow to drop off a dvd my dd borrowed from her dd on Sunday. We will see them next on the 21st after we come back from holiday; there was no mention of "it needs to be returned by the end of the week" when her dd offered it to mine. Of course I'll do it, I don't want to fall out with my friend over something silly, but surely at 8 her mother could explain to her dd that she'll get it back soon. Both the girls watched it on Sunday (it's Santa Claus 3) and I understand she might want to see it again before Christmas, but it's not like it's brand new! So, AIBU to be a bit narked?

Can you not just put it in the post?

I would put it in the post. I wouldn't expect you to do the trip, but my DD gets very attached to the strangest things and she could cry for that long over a DVD.

On the other hand I would have discouraged her from lending something that was that important to her.

Doh! I hadn't thought of that and am tempted, but with Christmas post it might not arrive tomorrow by the time I get to the PO now. I don't generally let my kids borrow stuff tbh as it's often more trouble than it's worth but her dd was insisting!

send it by courier or express - and make sure you ask her for a refund

if she was that bothered, she would drive over herself...

gobsmackedetal · 10/12/2009 08:05

why can't your frine dcome and pick it up? It's HER daughter who's making a fuss about previous arrangements that you'd think she had understood

Meet half way?

dexter73 · 10/12/2009 08:45

Could you order a new copy and send it to her? On Play it only costs £5 with free delivery.

worldgonemad72 · 10/12/2009 11:08

If you send it special delivery its supposed to be guaranteed next day delivery. If there was no mention of when it was to be returned i think she is being abu expected you to drive over there and return it instead of waiting for when you next meet up.

Buying the one from Play.com would be cheaper than the cost of petrol I'd imagine!
