to think that a washing machine should last longer than 4 years without rusting through at the front?!

So cross! Indesit washing machine, 4 years old, has had various issues which we have an insurance policy to cover. This morning I discover that the machine has rusted THROUGH the metal at the front below the rubber seal - if i gave it a good shove I could put my fingers through it. Guess what the policy doesn't cover....

Get a Miele. It won't happen again and you won't be buying a new machine for upwards of 15-20 years. YANBU, but frankly washing machines are designed to break after a few years so that you buy a new one - with a very few exceptions, of which Miele is one. They are enamel-coated so won't ever rust and they come with a lifetime rust guarantee.

NB I am not a Miele salesperson, but would gladly be one, they make fantastic products!

I bought a second hand Hotpoint about 8 years agao and it is still going strong. When it does give up, I will definately get another one!!!

And no, I don't think it should go rusty after 4 years!! What about asking trading standards for their advice?

Well my mum's Miele looks brand new after 10 years at least, and we've had one in our rental house since 2004 which has not broken once (touch wood etc) and we've now bought another one for our own house (having been living in rented property with rubbish machines needing constant attention for the last couple of years). I would never buy another brand.
