To expect to be able to carry paint home on a bus?

I bought some paint in Homebase today and when bording the bus to go home was told by the driver that he couldn't allow paint on the bus! I thought he was joking but he showed me the sign saying no paint or petrol. It was just normal matt emulsion, nothing highly toxic or flammable.

AIBU to expect to be able to take my paint home on the bus?

I bet it was always late First Bus,wasn't it? The majority of their drivers are idiots.

there was this last year as well here

Yeah, they have to do that, same with removals - you have to disguise.

We once took a sledgehammer home on the bus...

Actually, thinking about it, I'd love to be able to bring anything home on a bus... our village has no sensibly usable buses to anywhere at usable times unless you book it the day before.

Most removals companies won't transport paint for house moves either. Potential fire risk, and makes an almighty mess if it spills!
